Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nga - President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and the working group visited Soc Trang.

Welcoming the delegation were Mr. Lam Van Man, Alternate Member of the Central Committee, Secretary of Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Tran Van Lau - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, leaders of Friendship Associations in Soc Trang and related units.

Mr. Lam Van Man - Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee said, over the past time, along with the performance of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, building the political system, the Provincial Party Committee Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee has focused on leading and directing all levels of committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and organizations to well perform foreign affair tasks, including people-to-people relations.

Soc Trang continues to thoroughly direct and strictly implement the Central's policies on people-to-people relations, such as Directive No. 04, dated July 6, 2011, of the Secretariat on continuing to renew and improve the effectiveness of people-to-people relations in the new situation; Directive No. 38 dated September 19, 2019, of the Secretariat on continuing to renew, promote the role and improve the quality and efficiency of VUFO in the new situation.

Soc Trang province has been proactive in improving the quality of external work so that international friends increasingly understand correctly and fully about the country and people of Vietnam. The province actively gaining support from expatriates, overseas relatives, foreign non-governmental organizations, and local foreign enterprises to assist social security programs, contribute to local socio-economic development. Soc Trang improves the quality of activities of friendship unions and organizations in people-to-people relations; pay more attention to the coordination among people's organizations and between people's organizations and the Party and State's specialized foreign affairs agencies.

According to the Man, in the coming time, the province would continue to closely direct to improve the quality and efficiency of Friendship Associations of different countries in Soc Trang, especially in constructing the systems of foreign affair and people-to-people relation staffs, contributing to ensuring the Communist Party's unified leadership and direction, the State's centralized management, and close coordination between people-to-people relation, party's foreign relation activities and state diplomacy, forming a synergy of the external front that meets the requirements in the new situation. He hopes that in the coming time, VUFO would continue to support Soc Trang for developing its people-to-people relation works.

Speaking at the meeting, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga praised Soc Trang Friendship Association for its work and achievement in the last 8 years, which built up the cohesion of people of ethnic groups, and gained support from foreign non-governmental units.

Nga took this occasion to express the joy as Soc Trang Party Committee, authority and people put attention to the provincial people-to-people relations. At the same time, she hoped that in the coming time, the province leaders would continue to direct and ensure favorable conditions, invest in human resources and funds to enhance the efficiency of the provincial people-to-people relation activities.

The President of VUFO said that over the past years, VUFO and provinces had made great efforts to promote people-to-people relation activities, which was one of the 3 pillars of foreign relations. Under all circumstances, it is impossible to ignore the important role of people-to-people relation activities, as the people were always the foundation in all state activities.

Noting that localities need to deepen people-to-people foreign activities, closely followed local reality, at the same time change the approach of non-government aid, Nga affirmed that the Union must be the focal point to take charge of action plans for its members.

Base on her understanding of the working situation, advantages, and disadvantages of local unions, the President of VUFO emphasized that in the coming time, VUFO would continue to support in terms of mechanisms and structures, provide effective models to selected localities. VUFO would take the lead in changing the mode of non-governmental advocacy. Accordingly, the Union would send delegations to each locality to capture the local aspirations, thereby building a general plan to create favorable conditions for local activities. At the same time, VUFO would organize training courses to improve professional qualifications for foreign affairs staff in provinces.

Also at the meeting, Nga said that currently, only in Soc Trang that the name of "Friendship Association" was retained. Therefore, she suggested the unit to change its name to "Union of Friendship Association", as currently used by other provinces, in order to highlight the important role of the union.
