VUFO President Works with St. Petersburg Official to Boost People-to-people Exchange

On the afternoon of Nov. 30, in Moscow, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) met with V. Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of St.Petersburg City to discuss people-to-people exchange between Vietnam and St. Petersburg city.
This is a side activity of VUFO within the framework of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc's official visit to Russia from November 29 to December 2, 2021.
At the meeting, Ambassador Nga looks forward to opening a new chapter of people-to-people relations with the city of St.Petersburg in particular.
Kalganov welcomed Nga to Moscow and stated that the Committee for Foreign Affairs of St.Petersburg City highly appreciated Vietnam's position in the international arena in recent years.
Great potential for people-to-people exchanges
V. Kalganov shared information about planned activities in St. Petersburg such as the project that honors President Ho Chi Minh, one of the founding members of the French Communist Party. The city government wishes to cooperate with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in this activity.
Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga also said: VUFO is willing to cooperate with Saint Petersburg city to organize activities with the aim of enhancing peace and solidarity. VUFO will consider jointly celebrating this very important event.

Ambassador Nga suggested more talks to further discuss the comprehensive strategy of cultural exchange activities. She expressed high hope that the activities of VUFO and the Committee would make an important contribution to promoting the friendly cooperation between the two countries as Vietnamese people living in St. Petersburg city continue to grow. Vietnam and Russia relationship would be further promoted through high-level delegation exchanges and friendly exchanges.
Delighted by the idea, Kalganov affirmed that the cooperation between the Committee and Vietnamese agencies and partners is developing better and better. He talked about cooperation activities at the annual Book Fair taking place in May 2022 and wishes VUFO to attend.
According to him, introducing books about Ho Chi Minh at this event will help the two peoples gain a deeper mutual understanding, and help the young generation understand the brilliant history of the traditional friendship between the two peoples.
The two sides realized the importance of promotion activities to strengthen the friendship between the two peoples. Deputy Kalganov agreed that there is much potential for people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and that it is important to celebrate the Vietnam - Russia friendship especially in 2022 when the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations.

Nga emphasized that the people-to-people exchange activities will honor the great support and assistance of the country and the people of the Soviet Union during the years of war against foreign aggression for Vietnam's liberation as well as the assistance of the State and people of the Russian Federation for the present construction and defense of the Fatherland.
In May 2021, Nga also joined the videoconference between Ho Chi Minh city and St. Petersburg city and gave important remarks about two decades of strategic partnership. She believed the firm foundation built over the decades would fuel the localities to soon implement new projects and continue to strongly develop cooperation for the benefit of the two countries people.
