9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians
Young Parliamentarians to Discuss Three Topics of Common Interest to Countries
"The topics that the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference will discuss are all important. These are intersecting issues and also issues of common concern to countries such as the young generation, sustainable development, and innovation. Vietnam has effectively included these topics in its discussion sessions. I believe that Vietnam is the perfect host for the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians," said Zeina Hilal, member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretariat.
The statement was made at the international press conference to introduce the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in the National Assembly Building of Vietnam (Hanoi) on Sep. 12.

Regarding innovation, Zeina Hilal said IPU always closely monitors innovation trends in promoting sustainable development. The process of innovation brings both opportunities and challenges. The role of the parliamentarian is to make the most of opportunities and overcome difficulties.
"IPU is interested in supporting the promotion of innovation in many different fields. For example, in education, during the Covid-19 pandemic, many educational services were interrupted. Many teenagers and children did not have access to education. At that time, the role of parliamentarians was essential to make policies to promote innovation. Regarding employment, many jobs were lost but many new ones were born. The role of parliamentarians is to create legal frameworks in labor law to suit the interests of young people," she added.
Regarding digital transformation, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said, the world is going through several similar problems, but each country can solve these problems in its own way.
Scientific and technological achievements must serve the digital transformation to simplify the decision-making process, improve access to information and knowledge, and shorten the gap between countries.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam (L) answered reporters' questions at the press conference. |
"We expect the discussion to gather the intellect from more than 100 countries through outstanding young parliamentarians who represent their voters, people, and the generation will realize this dream by their own answers," said Nguyen Thanh Lam.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Party Committee and Chairman of the Group of Young National Assembly Delegates of the 15th National Assembly said that the third topic related to promoting respect for cultural diversity for sustainable development is of great significance. This issue attracts global concern, affecting the implementation of sustainable development goals. For Vietnam, culture is considered a driving force for development.
“We have great expectations for this conference with three closely related topics. Once we have a legal framework, institutional foundation and international cooperation process in the IPU community, we can form a cooperation mechanism to respect and develop the unique cultural characteristics of each country and each ethnic group, creating a colorful picture in the global cultural canvas. We will certainly contribute to building a world of prosperity, peace, cooperation and development. This is also the highest goal of the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, as well as the IPU," said Nguyen Anh Tuan.
