A ceremony was held at the SAPA Center in Prague on October 22 to mark the 20th founding anniversary of the Vietnamese language center.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Duy Nhien, President of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic, said that the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic generally places importance on the preservation and maintenance of the Vietnamese culture and language serving its sustainable development.

According to him, the associations’ leaders have paid attention through various means, such as organizing Vietnamese summer camps, promoting cultural programs, and competitions for children to show off their Vietnamese language, and helping children in the community access Vietnamese.

During the 20th anniversary celebration, in addition to the attention of associations’ leaders and representative agencies, generations of students had the opportunity to return and visit the center. This is the greatest gift and encouragement for teachers in preserving and developing Vietnamese in the Czech Republic.

Being aware of the importance of Vietnamese in maintaining family affection and preserving Vietnamese cultural identity, since the early 2000s, Vietnamese Association leaders in the Czech Republic have supported the opening of the first Vietnamese language classes to help their children understand and love their native language.

The initial successes became a great encouragement and a premise for the Vietnamese Association at Sapa Center to establish a Vietnamese Center in 2003.

With a strong commitment to promoting the mother tongue, the center has helped over 2,000 students acquire proficiency in the language over the past 20 years.

In 2009, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the facility, highlighting the significance of the teaching and studying of Vietnamese overseas. Recognizing the contributions of the Center's teachers, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) awarded Certificates of merit to the teachers.
