According to VOV, Ambassador Minh underscored the importance of international unity in the global fight against the pandemic, noting that the masks reflects the spirit of sharing that exists among both the Vietnamese NA and people in assisting Cambodia and its people to overcome the challenges brought about by the spread of the epidemic.
He then congratulated the Royal Cambodian Government and its people on their great achievements in the cause of national construction and development, especially in relation to COVID-19 prevention and control over recent times.
Receiving the donation, Cambodian National Assembly Secretary General Leng Peng Long emphasised that the masks will greatly alleviate the current shortage of medical supplies in their battle against the COVID-19.
Long added that the gift being presented by the Vietnamese NA indicates the solidarity and friendship that exists between both sides, further contributing to the close relations enjoyed by the two countries.
Last week, NA General Secretary Nguyen Hanh Phuc, on behalf of the NA, presented medical supplies to international parliaments and inter-parliamentary organisations, including Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, the UK, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Venezuela, Morocco, and Turkey; and EU Mission to Vietnam.
In recent months, Vietnam's government and people has donated many masks and medical supplies to a number of countries, which are heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Vietnam has been highly appreciated by many countries for the spirit of solidarity. Although it is also affected by COVID-19, Vietnam is still willing to share resources, provide medical assistance and create favorable conditions for citizens of countries to stay here.
The Cambodian Health Ministry said on May 16 that the last patient with the coronavirus has recovered and left hospital, leaving the Southeast Asian country with zero cases. Cambodia has reported 122 cases of the virus that causes COVID-19 and no deaths from the disease since it emerged in China and started spreading around the world, infecting more than 4.5 million and killing about 300,000 since January. Despite this bit of good news, the ministry cautioned the public to remain vigilant against the fatal viral disease. |
