Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang congratulated Amanda Nguyen on her selection to fly into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, scheduled to launch in 2025. Appreciating Amanda Nguyen’s consistent efforts in defending the rights of women and victims of sexual abuse, the host highlighted the significant contributions of Vietnamese women to the country’s development and defense.

He stressed Vietnam’s commitment to gender equality, prioritizing creating an environment conducive to promoting women’s roles and contributions to socio-economic development, and actively participating in the international community’s efforts in this regard. Within the UN, Vietnam has made many concrete contributions to the protection of women’s rights and gender equality and is willing to continue its efforts in this field, especially as a member of UN Women for the 2025-2027 term. Amanda Nguyen can contribute to strengthening national unity and play a bridging role in the development of Vietnam-US relations, Giang said.
In response, Amanda Nguyen expressed her hope that her future space mission would be an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnamese women, strengthen community ties, and encourage cooperation in promoting equal rights and combating violence and abuse against women.
Born in 1991 in the United States, Amanda Nguyen is an activist in the fight against discrimination and sexual abuse in the United States. Her efforts have been recognized by a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 and her being named one of Time magazine’s 2022 Women of the Year. Her honors include the 24th Heinz Prize for Public Policy, the Nelson Mandela Changemaker Award, as well as recognitions by Time 100 Next and Forbes 30 Under 30. Foreign Policy magazine also listed her among the 100 leading global thinkers, cited VNA. |
