Ambassador of Vietnam Meets the Vietnamese Community in Ústecký

Ambassador of Vietnam to the Czech Republic, Thai Xuan Dung, and other Embassy staff attended the 2021 Colorful Planet Festival and met the Vietnamese community in the Ústecký region.

The Colorful Planet Festival, held in the city of Ústi nad Labem in the Ústecký province in the north of the Czech Republic, is an annual event initiated by the Ústecký Region Council and the Center of Integration Ústi nad Labem to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen the friendship and cohesion between ethnic communities living in the Czech Republic, including Vietnamese. In 2020, the festival was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival was attended by the governor of the Ústecký region Jan Schiller, mayor of Ústi nad Labem Petr Nedvědický, leader of the Ethnic Minority Council of Ústecký Karolína Žákovská, Director of the Center of Integration Ústi nad Labem Jan Kubíček, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Czech Republic Thai Xuan Dung, ambassadors from other countries, leaders of the Vietnamese Association in Ústecký and representatives of ethnic communities from countries such as Vietnam, Ukraine and Russia living in the locality.

Discussing with Governor Schiller, Ambassador Xuan Dung expressed his joy to participate in the Colorful Planet Festival, emphasizing that the festival was a meaningful event to enhance the solidarity between ethnic groups in the region and across the Czech Republic. The ambassador also expressed his appreciation to the authorities of the Czech Republic, especially of the Ústecký region, for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work and better integrate into Czech society.

In this year’s festival, the Vietnamese community presented traditional arts and cuisine of Vietnam with iconic dishes and drinks such as spring rolls, sticky rice varieties, Mid-autumn festival cakes and coffee.

They expressed their joy to have welcomed the ambassador coming to visit their stalls. According to the Vietnamese present at the festival, stalls by the Vietnamese community were featured annually at the festival and attracted attention from international friends. All profits gained from the festival would be donated to Giac Vien pagoda to carry out charity activities.

On the same day, ambassador Xuan Dung and his wife met leaders of the Vietnamese Association in Ústecký. The ambassador asked about business activities and Covid prevention efforts of the Vietnamese community in the region.

The ambassador was pleased to know that Vietnamese in Ústecký had been complying strictly with Covid prevention and vaccination measures. The community’s efforts were recognized by local authorities and thanks to these efforts, there were few Vietnamese in Ústecký who got Covid.

The ambassador also praised the assistance that the Vietnamese community in Ústecký had given to local authorities, people and frontline staff in preventing Covid when the pandemic first broke out in the Czech Republic and in responding to other disasters.

In addition, ambassador Xuan Dung and other staff members of the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic visited the Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Center of the Ústecký region. Established in 2011, the center was recognized by Ústecký authorities as a religious and cultural center of the northern Czech Republic.

The center is a place for the Vietnamese community to practice Buddhism, contributing to cementing the solidarity and mutual support between Vietnamese in the region and across the Czech Republic, nurturing Vietnam’s culture and enhancing Czech Republic’s cultural diversity.
