Bac Giang Boosts Ties with Overseas Community Through Online Outreach

Strengthening connections through online platforms

Amid challenges posed by geographical distance, time zone differences, and limitations on in-person meetings, the Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organizations has adopted a flexible approach by engaging with overseas Vietnamese communities through online exchanges.

Building on the success of its 2022 virtual meeting with the Bac Giang Fellow-Countrymen Association in the Czech Republic, at 7:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on February 15, 2025, representatives of the Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organizations and the Department of Foreign Affairs held an online discussion with the Executive Committee of the Bac Giang Fellow-Countrymen Association in South Korea.

During the meeting, representatives from the association in South Korea highlighted its role in uniting and supporting the Vietnamese community in the country. Established in September 2023, the association has quickly become a bridge for mutual assistance in education, employment, and daily life. It has also actively facilitated business connections between South Korean enterprises and Bac Giang, contributing practically to the province’s development.

Notably, in May 2024, the association raised 1.3 million won (US$904.9) to support the families of victims from Bac Giang and Bac Ninh affected by a boarding house fire in South Korea on May 14, 2024. Additionally, in response to an appeal from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang Province, the association mobilized over 82 million VND in cash and essential goods to assist families impacted by Typhoon Yagi.

Expanding cooperation and attracting investment to Bac Giang

At the meeting, Nguyen Ngoc Hung, chairman of the Bac Giang Fellow-Countrymen Association in South Korea, expressed his desire to enhance the association’s role in connecting South Korean organizations and businesses with Bac Giang. He emphasized the importance of promoting the province’s potential, attracting investment, and creating new opportunities for economic collaboration. The association also proposed that Bac Giang authorities continue supporting necessary administrative procedures in accordance with South Korean regulations and provide updates on socio-economic policies to help overseas Vietnamese stay informed about their homeland’s development direction.

Leaders of the Bac Giang Department of Foreign Affairs and the Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organizations acknowledged the positive contributions of the association and encouraged it to further strengthen outreach efforts, mobilizing more overseas Vietnamese to participate in community activities and maintain close ties with domestic agencies. As a next step, both sides agreed to co-organize a Lunar New Year gathering for the Bac Giang community in South Korea on March 2, 2025.

According to Nguyen Duc Trong, the successful organization of online exchanges with fellow-countrymen associations in the Czech Republic and South Korea has opened new avenues for connection, improving the efficiency of two-way information exchange. Moving forward, the Bac Giang Union of Friendship Organizations will continue working with overseas associations to enhance engagement, support Vietnamese expatriates, and promote local cooperation and development.
