Can Tho to Celebrate Vietnam-India ties
Many activities will be organized in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to celebrate the the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam - India diplomatic ties (Jan. 7, 1972 - 2022), heard a working session between a delegation of the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations and the Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City on Jan. 5.

At the meeting, President of the Can Tho Union Le Thi Thanh Giang informed the Indian side of the activity plan to commemorate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties in Can Tho City, which will include a series of events such as courtesy visit of the Indian Ambassador and Consul General to the city leaders and a congratulation ceremony at Can Tho University.
The Can Tho Union will organize an exhibition and presentation trip around the city and an agricultural seminar co-held with the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute. At the same time, she also suggested organizing the 8th International Yoga Day in June 2022 and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) day in Can Tho City.
The President of the Can Tho Union hopes the consul general will coordinate to develop a detailed and specific program script of each activity, and invite Indian business delegations and art troupes in Ho Chi Minh City to perform at the celebration.
Consul General of India in HCM City Madan Mohan Sethi agreed with the draft plan of the Can Tho Union, adding that many Indian business delegations will come to Vietnam to explore investment cooperation opportunities in health, education, and trade.
The Consul General pledged to connect these business delegations to Can Tho City.
Sethi also proposed making connections with the city's units and departments to improve the quality of human resources training in finance - banking, science and technology, medical services, economy, and education, and to foster cooperation in education and high-quality human resources training for Vietnamese students in India.

A chain of diplomatic, economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchange events will be jointly held by the Indian Consulate General, the municipal authorities, and other southern localities in 2022.
According to Sethi, the Indian Consulate General planned to host 125 trade and investment promotion programs, and exchange events among students and doctors of the two nations.
Film screening programs, exhibitions, workshops on Vietnam–India relations, seminars, and other cultural events will be also included.
Tourism activities will also be arranged to attract Indian tourists to Vietnam’s Nha Trang, Vung Tau, and Phu Quoc, he added.
Sethi said that he would do his utmost to promote friendship between the 29 southern localities of Vietnam and Indian localities and expand trade ties between the two countries' localities towards lifting their two-way trade to USD 14 billion.
