On the occasion of this year's Vietnamese Women's Day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka recently organized a meeting with Vietnamese community members in Sri Lanka. Attending the event were women married to Sri Lankans and nuns studying Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam reiterated the significance of Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20 as well as the good qualities of Vietnamese women, whether living in the country or abroad.

Expressing the hope that the women will be ambassadors to support the embassy in bringing the image and culture of Vietnam closer to the people of Sri Lanka, most practically through their husbands and their families as well as neighbors in their places of residence and work, the diplomat asked the women to actively support the embassy in preparing activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, including cultural and culinary events...
The women representatives discussed their experiences living and studying in Sri Lanka, in which in addition to favorable factors such as the affection of the Sri Lankan people for Vietnam, there are also difficulties and challenges such as language barriers, culture, as well as lifestyle.
The women are also excited because in the community there is mutual love and support for each other regardless of religion, or position, the embassy always cares and supports when necessary.
Some opinions suggest that capable individuals in the community support Buddhist monks and nuns to strengthen their English through online classes, establish a women's association in Sri Lanka, and build more effective communication channels in the community to share useful information and support cases of hardship and accidents.
The Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka consists of about 200 people, mainly Buddhist monks and nuns who come to practice and study Buddhism; some brides who marry Sri Lankan men and workers working on foreign projects.
The community always actively supports and assists the embassy in major activities, especially celebrating National Day, community Lunar New Year (Tet), and Uncle Ho's birthday. Although the staff is quite modest, the embassy always prioritizes attention to the community and encourages timely visits and support when necessary, making the embassy a beloved address for the community.
