At the conference, the scholars and scientists presented research related to the East Sea (internationally called South China Sea) to increase understanding of the East Sea for the Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in European countries as well as the international community. In addition, the organizing committee hopes that the conference will help make objective assessments of the current status of the East Sea, in terms of natural, economic, political and social conditions, calling on countries in the European Unions (EU) and international organizations for their support. The organizing committee also called for sponsorship for scientific research cooperation projects related to the East Sea.
In the opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Ha Hoang Hai evaluated the conference "East Sea: Research and Development Cooperation" as a timely and important initiative in the current context. Hai believed that the East Sea plays a crucial role in the security and development of Vietnam. Therefore, organizing this conference helps share knowledge and insights on important issues related to this topic while promoting the spirit of solidarity among the Vietnamese community and mobilizing resources supporting the national defense and construction process.

He also emphasized the consistent and clear guidelines and policies of the Party and State of Vietnam in protecting sovereignty and national interests at sea.
"We resolutely and persistently fight to protect the sovereignty and the rightful, legitimate interests of the nation at sea, and at the same time proactively and actively resolve and handle disputes and disagreements in the East Sea by peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially is the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, preserving a peaceful, stable and cooperative environment for development," said Hai.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Manh Dong emphasized that as a coastal country, Vietnam has sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, and is a member of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982. Vietnam has been promoting cooperation in many fields, both bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally on the basis of provisions of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea for peace, security, stability, cooperation and development. Dong also stressed that Vietnamese expatriates around the world have made many contributions in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

It demonstrates the love and connection between overseas Vietnamese and the homeland and connects all Vietnamese people in the process of protecting Vietnamese sovereignty. The spirit of the Vietnamese community abroad, Dong said, is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese people.
A photo exhibition about Vietnam's seas and islands was held as a part of the conference. There were also traditional art performances, demonstrating the spirit of connection, consolidating and strengthening the solidarity of the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in Europe in particular.
