From January 19 to 21, at the Sheraton Grand Da Nang Resort, a lavish wedding party of an Indian billionaire couple took place. The party owner spent about 500,000 USD, covering more than 250 rooms in 3 days with nearly 500 guests and service staff and more than 1 ton of materials, costumes, and props shipped from India to Da Nang.

In March 2019, a resort in Phu Quoc was also fully booked to host a super wedding of a billionaire couple from India. The wedding of groom Rushang Shah and bride Kaabia Grewaly had 700 guests, all of the elite from India and many other countries, and more than 200 waiters. 11 events and ceremonies were held in 4 days from March 7 to 10, 2019.

This event caused the number of searches for hotels and flights to Vietnam by Indian tourists to skyrocket by 390% from January 2019 to mid-May 2023. In 2023, Da Nang city will also grow in the Indian tourist market with more than 95,000 visitors, accounting for 50% of the total number of Indian visitors to Vietnam.

Prepare for the luxury segment

The central city will take advantage of the growing interest in the Indian market - known for luxurious destination weddings and with a wedding market estimated to hit USD 100 billion by 2025, VNA reported.

According to the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, wedding tourism has become a strategic focus of many Asian countries over the past 5 years, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Da Nang is the home of My Khe, ranked as one of the six most beautiful beaches of the planet. It is located in an advantageous area connecting with other places. There are direct air routes from the city to India, including to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

The city also has cultural similarities with Indians and has places symbolizing Champa culture, such as the Cham Sculpture Museum and My Son Sanctuary. To attract Indian guests, the city needs an ecosystem of accommodations, cooks, and food materials.

Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the municipal Tourism Department, said Da Nang is a new and attractive place for Indian tourists thanks to several advantages, including marine tourism, world-famous hotel brands, interesting theme parks, night-time entertainment activities, diverse cuisine, its connectivity with some of the world’s cultural heritage sites in Vietnam, and its recognition as the Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination.

The growth of Indian visitors in 2023 initially proved the attractiveness of this city, which welcomed over 95,000 arrivals from the South Asian country, accounting for almost half of the total Indian tourists coming to Vietnam last year, she noted.

The official said the local tourism sector has devised an array of measures for attracting wedding tourists such as opening direct air routes to key markets, boosting communications, and hosting wedding fairs and exhibitions.

Cao Tri Dung, chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, assessed that the city has many advantages to develop this type of wedding tourism. This is also a product to attract tourists, especially especially from the upper class abroad.

According to Dung, Da Nang has convenient transportation, full and complete services with many 5-star hotels and large halls to accommodate large, luxurious wedding parties. Besides, Da Nang is also a city with beautiful, romantic scenery, suitable for couples to choose for a particularly important day.

"For foreign tourists, Da Nang is a new destination. For a long time, they have chosen Bali and Phuket. Now they choose Da Nang as both an impressive destination and a quality destination," Dung emphasized.

Da Nang will host 5 more billionaire wedding parties

In the coming months, there are expected to be 5 wedding events of Indian billionaires in Da Nang with a scale of 200 to 350 guests, held in 3 to 5 days, Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper cited the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center. Hotels in Da Nang also receive dozens of wedding events from couples from Japan and some other countries.

Nguyen Duc Quynh, general director of Furama Resort and chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association, said weddings of foreign tourists are often simple and intimate, but most Indian weddings are held for several days, even up to five days, and the number of guests could reach hundreds.

In early 2024, Furama Resort will host weddings of three Indian couples, and each event will last for many days and welcome hundreds of guests, he noted, considering this as a positive sign for the city’s wedding tourism.
