There have been 1,029 people test positive for COVID-19 since the first case was detected back in January, with 547 cases connected to Da Nang since July 25.

The COVID-19 outbreak has put extreme pressure on Da Nang’s healthcare sector, with three hospitals placed on lockdown due to the fact that patients first visited these facilities before testing positive.

Together with Da Nang hospital, other health facilities such as Hospital C, Da Nang Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital and two medical centers in Hai Chau and Cam Le districts had been quarantined following virus detection. All but Da Nang hospital have now reopened the door to receive patients back.

As a result, the healthcare system lacks resources and infrastructure to support its population and treat all patients. Children with congenital heart defects who are being treated at local hospitals are among the most vulnerable groups to the pandemic because of their weak hearts and lung malfunction. It is crucial they get sufficient care and immune system strengthened to ensure stable health while waiting for their life-saving surgery.

On behalf of VinaCapital Group, representatives from VinaCapital Foundation presented essential supplies and protective items such as masks, face shields,... to 85 children with congenital heart defects and their families, to help the children and their caregivers avoid getting infected during the pandemic.

In addition, in response to the nationwide campaign to join hands for Da Nang, through the Da Nang Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee, VinaCapital Group and VCF collaborated to donate nearly VND 500 million (USD 21.500) worth of medical equipment such as medical masks, specialized masks, protective gear, hand sanitizer... to help health workers here be better protected.

Money and goods, including rice, protective gear, hand sanitiser, and medical face masks from the fund have been delivered to Da Nang and Quang Nam, which are hotspots for the current COVID-19 outbreak, according to the Da Nang City VFF Committee.

The committee is set to continue working with relevant parties to step up communications to raise more donations and distribute support to anti-COVID-19 forces and those affected in the time ahead.

Founded in 2006, VCF aims to support the national economic development and empower the children and women of Vietnam through health and education programs.

VCF’s grassroots medical programs include Heartbeat Vietnam and Outreach Clinics – designed to locate disadvantaged children with congenital heart defects and other non-communicable diseases in even the remotest areas and provide access to quality healthcare. Medical capacity building programs are partnerships with the Ministry of Health and include Critical Response emergency care – pediatric advanced life support training & emergency equipment, and Survive to Thrive – building capacity for neonatal care.

VCF’s education initiative in cooperation with Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, the Brighter Path program, is an empowerment and scholarship program for impoverished but academically talented ethnic minority girls – developing communities and reducing poverty./.
