Wildfire in Ha Tinh province

A fire broke out at around 4 pm June 29 in An Phu commune, Vu Quang district, Ha Tinh province, central Vietnam then quickly spread to the nearby forest area in Son Long and Son Tra communes.

Over 400 people, including police, soldiers, local residents, forest rangers were deployed to prevent the fire from spanning out in the middle of the night.

The complex terrain and thick vegetation enabled the fire to spread very speedily, making it more difficult for the firefighters to control the fire.

According to the Forest Protection Department of Huong Son district, the initial fire was caused by some locals who burnt incense and offerings at the Vu Quang Cemetery. The sparks were blown away across a long distance to the Son Tra commune and caused the fire.

As of June 30 morning, the fire was partly under control.
