Designer Cao Thi Huyen (Rose Cao), a Serbian overseas Vietnamese, has become the first Vietnamese to win a prize at the Chelsea Flower Show 2023, the world's most prestigious annual flower exhibition hosted by the UK’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), VNA reported.
Huyen won the silver award in the floral design category with the work "Dance of Light". She said that her design shows the image of a flame, using a variety of flowers in purple and yellow tones to create natural light shining on the flower lamp post. The design does not use plastic according to the show criteria towards developing sustainable and environmentally friendly horticulture.
To be able to attend the event, which is considered the final round of flower designers in the world, it took Huyen six months to prepare and submit the design for approval by the exhibition organizers. At the exhibition, the winners of the floral design category must pass the judgment of 50 judges.
Huyen said the award is a reward for her constant efforts. She is very happy to have the opportunity to introduce the floral art of a Vietnamese designer to British flower lovers. She also hopes the award will inspire Vietnamese floral designers to come to big leagues like Chelsea Flower Show.
"After several months of preparing for Chelsea Flower Show from the stage of ideation, sketching, creating profolio to send to RHS (Royal Horticulture Society) to the implementation of construction plans for 3 consecutive days at the Great Pavilion @ Chelsea Flower Show. It was a long and challenging process but I really enjoy all the stages.
There were a few surprises for me from the first day of construction and since I was not based in London, I couldn't manage to change the situation in time. Therefore I was in a passive position - quite confused and pressure at the same time. However, I'm very grateful to the friends on the show ground who supported me," Huyen wrote in her Facebook page.
Yesterday, my design received a silver medal rating. It is a form of recognition for my efforts with the supports of whom brought me to this exhibition.
Taking place from May 23-27 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, the event brings together nearly 300 leading UK and international companies, garden and florist designers.
