Football Tournament Connects Vietnamese Community in Japan

FAVIJA Kanto Cup is an annual activity organized by the Vietnam Japan Sports and Cultural Exchange Association (FAVIJA), with the auspices of the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, the local government in Kanto, the support and sponsorship of Vietnamese enterprises in Japan.
Starting from November 21, 80 Vietnamese football teams in Japan competed to win tickets to the final round of 32 teams with the best results. The final round (32 teams) of the knockout round took place on December 19.
On the day of the final match on December 19, about 500 players gathered and competed on eight grass courts at the Omiya Kenpo Ground in Saitama city. Hundreds of overseas fans and local people came to the stadium to cheer and create a vibrant atmosphere.
Do Quang Ba, president of FAVIJA, said that to successfully organize the tournament, the organizers have thoroughly implemented measures to prevent Covid-19 infection. This football tournament is not only a sports playground for health training, community engagement, but also has a profound meaning. The organizers approved the tournament to raise funds to support the unfortunate cases of Vietnamese in Japan having accidents and incurable diseases, especially those facing difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the end of the tournament, the championship belonged to FC Real Tobama, the runner-up belonged to FC AE38 and two third-place teams were FC Tokai and Gold Star JP FC.
The organizers also awarded the top scorer award to FC Washi player Nguyen Tien Trong, the best goalkeeper belonged to Nguyen Huy Hoang of FC Real Tobama. FC AE38 player Nguyen Phi Phuoc won the best player award and also received the title of "Vietnamese football ambassador in Japan in 2022."

The total value of the prizes of the tournament is 4.9 million yen (US$43,202). The winning team also received a ball signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his recent visit to Japan.
For the overseas Vietnamese community in Japan, especially young people, this football tournament is a healthy and useful playground for Vietnamese people in Japan to learn and exchange experiences in daily life, work and study, help each other in difficulties.

The tournament is also meaningful for strengthening the relationship of mutual understanding between the governments and peoples of the two countries, between individuals, groups and businesses, and state agencies. The tournament builds a beautiful image of Vietnamese people in the eyes of local people.
