According to Vice President Nguyen Manh Hung, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association has called on its members to donate 500 protective suits and 18,500 masks (including 17,500 medical masks and 1,000 antibacterial cloth masks) to the Lao people with the desire to help Laos prevent the disease.
The small gifts demonstrate the Vietnamese people’s solidarity and friendship with Lao brothers, he noted.
Hung expressed his belief that with joint efforts by the two governments, peoples and health sectors, the pandemic will be contained soon, thus helping stabilize people’s lives and boost socio-economic development.
Offering thanks to the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang said the face masks will be distributed widely to the Lao people.
The number of cases in the country stands at 19 while two people have recovered.
On the same day, Commander of the Military Region 2 High Command, Major General Pham Hong Chuong transferred medical supplies and equipment to representatives of northern Lao provinces to support their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
This included 90,000 antibacterial face masks, 20 infrared thermometers to measure body temperature, and 3,000 disinfection gel tubes.
The command also presented a number of COVID-19 prevention and control documents translated into Lao to the localities.
In addition, the Ministry of Defence and its military units also have presented medical supplies to the armies of China, Cuba, Germany, Hungary, and Cambodia as part of the Vietnamese army’s efforts to join hands with its foreign counterparts to contain COVID-19.
The shipments, worth nearly VND 19 billion (USD 812.100), include face masks, gloves, protective suits, thermometers, hand sanitiser and others.
Vietnamese expats and enterprises in Laos have provided financial support, medical supplies, and technological solutions worth a total of over 500,000 USD to Laos since the beginning of the outbreak earlier this year./.
