At the Headquarters of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan on Tuesday had a meeting with Christos Giannakakis, vice chairman of the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Greece and Moschos Korasidis, general director of the Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives. They discussed about cooperation in bringing Vietnamese workers to work in Greece in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives Christos Giannakakis said, during this visit to Vietnam, the Union wishes to establish and promote the first steps of cooperation in bringing Vietnamese workers to work in Greece in the agricultural sector.

The Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives is expanding its search for new labor markets like Vietnam with its high-quality, and hard-working workforce.

Christos Giannakakis said that "At this visit, we look forward to receiving support and cooperation from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs particularly and the Vietnamese Government in the process of bringing Vietnamese workers to work in Greece.

In that way, the two parties will eliminate the risks related to illegal labor brokerage. We also ensure that when Vietnamese workers come to Greece to work, they will be provided with the best facilities and materials to work."

At the proposals of the vice chairman of the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Greece, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan informed that in July 2023, Vietnam allowed 3 enterprises to prepare labor resources (each enterprise is allowed to prepare a source of 50 workers) to work in the agricultural sector (planting, harvesting and processing agricultural products) in Greece.

"With a great demand for labor, the Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives and the Department of Overseas Labor (MoLISA) can sign a framework agreement on bringing Vietnamese workers to work in Greece in the field of agriculture.

This is considered as a small agreement in the overall agreement on labor cooperation between the Governments of the two countries," said Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan.

In addition, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan asked the Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives to clarify the process and time for visa issuance, foreign language requirements and work permits for Vietnamese workers to work in Greece.

On the basis of general regulations and standards, MoLISA will guide businesses to select workers for training and meet the requirements of Greece.

The Greek National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives is an organization with more than 300 members, of which 80% are cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector, stretching from the north to the south of Greece.

"Currently, Greece has a shortage of human resources in many fields (60,000 workers in agriculture, processing industry, 50,000 workers in construction, and 50,000 workers in tourism).

Greece has only received workers from countries outside the European Union (EU) to work in industries such as agriculture, livestock, fishing, construction, apparel, hotels, restaurant and domestic help. Some Asian countries that supplied workers to Greece are Bangladesh, the Philippines, and China," Christos Giannakakis said.
