Exceeding the target of the whole year

According to the report, Japan, Taiwan (China) and South Korea continue to be the three markets that receive a large number of Vietnamese laborers.

Over the past 10 months, Japan received more than 62,700 workers from Vietnam, Taiwan (China) had more than 48,500 labors coming to work, South Korea welcomed about 10,800 workers. Other markets include China (1,920 workers), Singapore (more than 1,770 workers), and Romania (more than 820 workers).

In 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs aims to send 125,000 workers to work abroad, focusing on stable, high-income markets such as Japan, Taiwan (China), South Korea, Germany, etc.

The focus is improving the quality of Vietnamese workers working abroad under contracts. Along with that, continue to stabilize and maintain existing markets and will develop and expand high-income markets, in accordance with the qualifications and skills of Vietnamese workers.

Vietnamese workers join the local workforces in industries such as manufacturing (mechanical, textile, footwear, electronic assembly, etc.), construction, agriculture, fisheries (fishing and aquaculture) and services (caring for the elderly, the sick, etc domestic helper). They received dood working and living conditions with guaranteed welfare regime, the report stated.

More than 650,000 Vietnamese workers are currently working in more than 40 countries and territories, sending in about US $3.5 to 4 billion in remittances per year. Workers working in South Korea have the highest income, from US $1,500 to 2,000, followed by Japan US $1,200 to 1,500, Taiwan (China) from US $800 to 1,200. Middle Eastern and Malaysian markets recorded lower wages, ranging from US $600 to 1,000 for skilled workers and US $400 to 600 for unskilled workers.

Developing high-income markets

Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has developed an Action Plan to implement the Government's Resolution No. 225/NQ-CP dated 31.12.2023 promulgating the Plan to implement Directive No. 20-CT/TW dated 12.12.2022 of the XIII Party Central Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over Vietnamese overseas labor. This is to create a new image to the work of sending people to work abroad.

To create favorable conditions for businesses to enter new markets and to make sure that traditional labor receiving markets wwill continue to be maintained stable.

Eariler this year, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam announced the implementation of support for Vietnamese citizens to work in the agricultural sector in Australia under the Labor Mobility Program between the two countries.

Under the program, the Australian Government will allow up to 1,000 Vietnamese workers to work in the agricultural sector in Australia at the same time. Vietnamese employees participating in the Program can work short-term jobs (from 6 to 9 months), or long-term jobs (from 1 to 4 years).

The job position of Vietnamese workers only requires low- to semi-skilled vocational skills in the agricultural sector such as farming, meat processing, fisheries (including aquaculture) and forestry.

In addition, the Ministry continues to expand and develop a number of labor markets with good income levels and working conditions in the European region. Currently, the number of workers working in this market is not much, but the working conditions and income are relatively good.

The European region has always been considered as a key market, with a need to receive a large number of foreign workers, including Vietnamese workers to work. Vietnamese workers have initially created a reputation and brand in the international labor market.

From the beginning of 2024, the selection, training of sources and sending workers to work abroad under contracts will be strengthened and managed more strictly. Authorities also continue to inspect and examine enterprises providing services to send workers to work abroad under contracts, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of employees.

Up to now, the activity of sending workers to work abroad has recovered positively, making an important contribution to creating jobs associated with high income for employees.
