Hanoi lecturer received medal from the President of Italy

On April 14, at Hanoi University of Technology and Science, Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro awarded the Ordine della Stella d'Italia Medal, the Cavaliere title from Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Associate Professor Ta Hai Tung, Head of the Information Technology and Communication Institute (under Hanoi University of Technology and Science).
"The Order of Merit is the noblest and most important reward, recognizing the contributions of non-Italian to the relations between Italy and other countries", Mr. Antonio stressed. This decision to award Associate Professor Ta Hai Tung was based on Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio's request.
According to Ambassador Antonio, Mr. Ta Hai Tung made continuous efforts during his master's studies in "Positioning and related applications", and his doctorate's research in Electronics and Telecommunication at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Mr. Tung contributed to the Italian research on the fields by writing many articles published in prestigious specialized journals.
From 2011 to 2018, Mr. Tung was the Director of “Collaboration Centre for Research and Development on Satellite Navigation Technology in South East Asia” (NAVIS), which was built and managed by Hanoi University of Technology and Science and the Politecnico di Torino. NAVIS is among the regional leading institute in on research of positioning technology using satellite (satellite navigation).

Under the guidance of Mr. Tung, the NAVIS center quickly became an excellent research institute in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in the field of global satellite positioning. Tung also contributes greatly to positioning technology transfer in Vietnam, focusing on the European Galileo technology promotion and the cooperation with leading Italian companies in this field.
As the Head of Information and Communication Technology Insitute under Hanoi University of Technology and Science, Associate Professor Ta Hai Tung works closely with the NAVSAS research team from Politecnico di Torino and Mario Boella Research Institute in fostering exchanges of students and young researchers between Vietnam and Italy.
"We commend him for his work in promoting international cooperation in science. It is a base to promote sustainable development and improve life quality in Vietnam and in any country that Tung has cooperation projects with," said Mr. Antonio, affirming this noble merit expressed the sincere gratitude of Italy and its deep concern towards Vietnam.
Expressing his honor when receiving the order of merit, Associate Professor Ta Hai Tung said living, studying, and working in Italy helped him understand the affection from Italia and its people, as well as the harmony between two countries in many fields, especially culture and education.
"Since I returned to the homeland, my partner and I have been doing our best to develop cooperation activities in training, high-level scientific research for the development of each party", said Mr. Tung.
Associate Professor Ta Hai Tung received his doctorate from the inter-university high-level doctoral program, granted by Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, and Politecnico di Bari (Italy) in 2010. From 2011 to 2018, he was the Head of NAVIS. Since 2018, he has been the Director of the Institute of Information Technology and Communication Institute (Hanoi University of Technology). Tung is also the Co-Chairman of the Asian Positioning Organization - the largest satellite-based positioning organization in Asia and Oceania (from 2016 to 2019). He was awarded the Golden Globe Awards in 2013 by the Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. |
