A representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that halting receiving foreign arrivals would last until June 7, while outbound flights would operate as usual, VnExpress reported.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City has also stopped receiving foreign arrivals from May 27 to June 14 amid the complex coronavirus situation in the southern metropolis.

The airport will still serve outbound flights.

Foreign arrivals to Vietnam have been limited since March last year due to COVID-19. Only Vietnamese citizens stranded overseas, foreign officials, diplomats, experts, investors and high-skilled workers are allowed in.

Passengers must undergo a 21-day mandatory quarantine period, either in centralized camps or other facilities like hotels.

Over a month into the new COVID wave, the fourth one and the most challenging one Vietnam has faced yet, the nation has recorded 4,164 domestic cases in 34 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang Province and its neighbor Bac Ninh account for most infections, with 2,209 and 808 cases. They are followed by the three biggest cities of Hanoi with 411 cases (93 in a hospital under lockdown), HCMC with 157 cases and Da Nang with 157.
