HCM City Wants Vietnamese Expats in Thailand Help to Boost Its Economy

From November 15 to November 20, the Ho Chi Minh City working group including leaders of the city Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the city Trade Promotion Center had a program to learn about the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

At the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok, Vu Thi Huynh Mai, chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City's Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, leading a delegation working with the Vietnamese community in Thailand, visited Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh.

At the meeting, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh informed the group about the current strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand while Vietnamese expats integrated into the host society. The role of the overseas Vietnamese community is highly appreciated by the host government and is an important bridge contributing to the growing friendship between Vietnam and Thailand.

Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh introduced an overview of the Vietnamese community in Thailand, and informed the delegation about the investment business situation of Vietnamese enterprises in Thailand and trade opportunities for businesses of the two countries in the future.

Mai exchanged with the Ambassador some information about some socio-economic development achievements of HCM City in recent times.

She received several comments from the Vietnamese diplomatic representative in Thailand on promoting domestic and foreign connection work in the coming time to encourage Vietnamese people in Thailand to visit and search for investment opportunities.

Through the trip, the delegation also hopes the Vietnamese community in Thailand mobilizes this human resource to contribute in several areas of interest to the HCM City, such as manufacturing, traffic, logistics, health, environment, and urban development.

The delegation wishes to connect with the Embassy, Consulate General of Vietnam in Thailand, and the Vietnamese community in Thailand to strengthen solutions to mobilize the community to actively participate in introducing, developing distribution channels for the city's goods in the host country, and use HCM City's brand products.

Thailand is home to up to 200,000 overseas Vietnamese, most of them in the northeastern area of the country. Bangkok alone houses nearly 1,000 people of Vietnamese origin.
