In celebration of International Coffee Day on October 1, Booking shared a list of the ten most favored destinations for coffee aficionados, where Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City ranks seventh.
The online travel agency revered Vietnam’s rich and varied coffee culture, with many areas coining their own delicacies including ‘ca phe trung,' or egg coffee. The site recommends that international travelers join a Vietnamese coffee tour to experience and appreciate Vietnam's coffee culture like a local.
“Ho Chi Minh City is home to upscale coffee shops and many more traditional spots where locals and tourists can sit on plastic stools that line the streets enjoying ‘ca phe sua da,' a ground dark roast Vietnamese-grown coffee often served over ice with condensed milk,” the Booking.com report wrote.
The ranking results named Napoli in Italy as the best coffee city in the world, followed by Ukraine’s Lviv and Italy’s Rome.

Booking has previously named Ho Chi Minh City in other lists of cities for coffee lovers. "Drinking Vietnamese coffee is an adventure. Stray beyond the classic filter coffee and treat your tastebuds to a slightly more indulgent ‘sua chua ca phe’ (yogurt coffee). If you’re a fan of tiramisu, try a creamy ‘ca phe trung’ – coffee with a rich froth made from egg yolk and condensed milk," it said in an article named "A coffee-lover’s guide to the world."
Vietnamese coffee has long been loved by foreigners. Coffee was introduced to Vietnam by the French in the late 19th century but the country quickly became a strong exporter, as vast swathes of the highlands were given over to this important new cash crop. And now the Vietnamese have taken coffee to new levels of almost gastronomical - even medicinal - heights, said Telegraph.

Vietnamese have a special style of enjoying coffee, they do not consider coffee as a quick drink or anti-sleep substance, they enjoy coffee as a culture: sipping and thinking. Sitting on the side of the cafe, just take a sip and read the newspaper, listening to music, chatting with friends, business partners. Depending on the type of coffee, people can feel the sour taste, the oiliness, and the aroma of different kinds of fruit. “Cafe phin” is considered to be the favorite drink of Vietnamese people. The feeling of waiting for every drop of coffee is interesting. It is even more fun to enjoy the finished product - it can be a hot cup of black coffee, with a little condensed milk, according to Saigon Motorbike.
For the Saigonese, coffee is a popular drink of all people from the elderly to the young regardless of sex or status. Saigonese can drink coffee anywhere, from the sidewalk to a luxurious place. You can see a wide range of coffee shops in Saigon: pet coffee, book coffee, or the most famous 'ca phe vot' (coffee prepared in a fabric bag).

Young generations are no longer prevalent for this kind of coffee style. However, back in the old times, fabric bags is Saigonese's most convenient tool to make coffee. The fabric bag is filled with coffee, then dipped in the boiling kettle and stirred with the chopsticks several times. After that, people cover the lid and “cook” the coffee for about ten minutes until it can be served.
Coffee is also regarded as a feature of Saigon as well as a kind of Saigon’s street cuisine. When you plan to pick any Ho Chi Minh City tour, remember to take your time to sit on the sidewalk and call a cup of coffee and enjoy the street like a local.
