Ho Chi Minh City Takes Full Care for People in Difficulties Welcoming 2022 Lunar New Year
According to the statistics from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City show that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused an increase in the number of poor and near-poor households in the city. Currently, the total number of poor and near-poor ones have been more than 58,000 (accounting for nearly 2.3% of total households), including nearly 37,800 poor households and more than 20,200 near-poor households. The number of poor and near-poor households in the city has increased by nearly 4,200 ones compared to the beginning of the year.
During the support program on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2022, the area of difficult people was expanded including families with dead cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers; families of cadres, civil servants, public employees and employees whose relatives died from Covid-19...
In addition to giving gifts to policy-sponsored families, the city has a Tet gift of VND1.15-1.25 million/household sent to poor households, households that have just escaped the poverty line and near-poor (about 58,000 households).
The number of poor and near-poor households receiving care for Tet increased by more than 26,300 households because people's lives were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The cases of social protection, the disabled, the elderly over 80 years old and above will receive a Tet gift of VND 1.15 million /person (US$ 50).

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs' Director Le Minh Tan said that: “The city spends about VND 900 billion to take care of people during the 2022 Lunar New Year, an increase of VND 100 billion compared to the previous year. Along with the budget from the city budget, there is also the participation of benefactors and businesses.
On December 20, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City also received funding from 2 individuals and 20 units and businesses to support nearly VND 56 billion to support the "For the Poor" Fund for people in difficulties to enjoyTet on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Tiger in 2022.
From the support of individuals, units and businesses, the Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the Mobilization Board of the "For the Poor" Fund of the City coordinated with member organizations to implement the program. The Year of the Tiger in 2022 for grassroots Fatherland Front officials in difficult circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic; union and member organizations' staffs of the Fatherland Front; ethnic minorities have difficulties. Each gift is worth VND 1 million (US$ 50) supported by the city's "For the Poor" Fund.
