Sixty-two permanent checkpoints and 11 mobile teams have been set up around the clock, on trails and paths along Vietnam’s 260-km-long border with Cambodia, with more than 300 soldiers in charge of pandemic prevention managing them.
Given the complex developments from this second wave of COVID-19, border patrols are now more regular and thorough.
The HUFO partnered with the Union of Friendship Organizations in the southern province of Binh Phuoc to present supplies to the Binh Phuoc provincial border guards who are undertaking missions to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.
This follows the success of two batchs of supplies and necessities that sought to help the frontline forces in the Tay Ninh province in war against the pandemic.
The gifts included 25,000 face masks, 500 wind medicated oil bottles, 252 boxes of Effervescent Vitamin C, 150 bottles of bug repellent, 68 Instant hand sanitizer bottles, 200 liters of antiseptic solution, 10 barrels of mosquito incense, 150 bottles of insecticide, 89 boxes of instant noodles, 5 barrels of instant coffee, 6 barrels of dried dates, 10 barrels of hand sanitizer with a total value of over VND 225 million (USD 9.700).
During the hand-over ceremony, HUFO Chairman Vuong Duc Hoang Quan acknowledged and hailed the great achievements of the provincial border guards, asking them to continue to protect national sovereignty and security as well as prevent and control the pandemic.
The gifts will help the border troops as well as forces on-duty in border areas overcome difficulties and fulfill their assigned tasks, especially the mission to fight against the complicated COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
The border guards extended sincere thanks to the HUFO for their support while pledging to excellently fufill all entrusted tasks.
So far this year border guards in Binh Phuoc have foiled 53 attempts to smuggle in 121 people.
Vietnam has shut down its borders since March to keep out COVID-19.
Everyone allowed to enter must remain in quarantine for 14 days.

Earlier, the HUFO and the Union of Friendship Organizations of Tay Ninh province has presented second batch of supplies worth VND 400 million (USD 17.200) to the provincial border guards.
Through practical activities such as donating supplies, medical equipment and essential goods, the HUFO wishes to contribute to encouraging the forces tasked with preventing and fighting against COVID-19 at the border.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the HUFO and many member organizations under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) has coordinated with foreign NGOs and business associations in Vietnam in organizing fund-raising programs, present medical supplies, and make contributions for the fight against the COVID-19 both inside and outside Vietnam.
The aid illustrates Vietnam’s continued willingness to assist other countries on a bilateral and multilateral basis to the best of its abilities even as it continues to remain cautious about managing its own coronavirus challenge at home./.
