Speaking at the ceremony, Chuon Seiha (Hoang Duc Ha), President of the Kampot Provincial Khmer-Vietnam Association, thanked Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee and authorities, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Preah Sihanouk province, and sponsors from and outside of Kampot province for their support to build the house, from choosing the land slot to constructing and finishing the communal house.
According to Chuon Seiha, the construction of the communal house began on January 27 and completed on May 24. The house consists of one meeting room, one Khmer/Vietnamese classroom and three bathrooms with a total construction area of 60m2. The construction cost $25,112.
Praising the determination and efforts of the Kampot Provincial Khmer-Vietnam Association to complete the house as planned despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly said the communal house is the pride of the association and Vietnamese Cambodian community in Kampot. The house has met the community’s demand and hope to have a place to carry out community activities and teach Khmer/Vietnamese to Vietnamese Cambodian children in Kampot.

The Consul General affirmed that although the house was small and simple, it was a property of the Vietnamese Cambodian community in Kampot, built on the piece of land that the community can use legally in Cambodia. The communal house would become a meeting place for the Vietnamese Cambodian community to share life experience and help each other. Vu Ngoc Ly also believed the house symbolized the close-knit bond between Vietnamese Cambodians in Kampot. It was built with tireless efforts from the local community and other individuals who have a strong attachment to Kampot.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Consul General thanked the sponsors from Kampot province and other provinces for their support to build this meaningful communal house. Vu Ngoc Ly expressed his appreciation towards the local authorities and Cambodians for their continued support for Vietnamese Cambodians in Kampot and for the construction of the house.
