According to NDO, the event was held by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Battambang Province.
On behalf of the Party, State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials and employees of Vietnam’s diplomatic missions and consulates in six provinces in the Northwest region of Cambodia, including Battambang, Siem Reap, Pursat, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey and Pailin, Consul General Le Tuan Khanh offered his best wishes to the entire Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
The diplomat also highlighted the proud achievements of Vietnam in the past year. In the context of the world and the region being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has well controlled the epidemic situation, maintained political and social stability, strengthened national defence and security, and expanded foreign affairs.

In the meantime, Vietnam Consulate General in Battambang also held a meeting with the Vietnamese community in the northwest of Cambodia to celebrate the 13th Party Congress and the spring of 2021 on the evening of January 16.
Regarding the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia, Consul General Le Tuan Khanh said that the bilateral political relationship was developing in depth. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visits of all levels between the two sides could not be carried out, however, dialogues through phone calls were still held regularly, making a practical contribution to the construction and development of each country.
In particular, the two sides have ratified and released the set of border maps and legal documents recognizing the results of land border demarcation. This is a fundamental legal basis for the people of the two countries to jointly build a border of peace, friendship for cooperation, and sustainable development.
Regarding economic, cultural, and educational cooperation, although there are certain difficulties, in 2020, trade exchange between the two countries will reach 5.3 billion USD. Currently, Vietnam is the fifth largest investor in Cambodia with 216 projects and total registered capital of over 3.2 billion USD.
Looking back over the past year, Consul General Le Tuan Khanh warmly praised and highly appreciated the solidarity spirit of the Executive Committee of the Khmer-Vietnam Association of Cambodian Northwestern provinces in uniting people to preserve national cultural identity, heading towards the homeland, gradually adapting into the host society. At the same time, he spoke highly of Vietnamese enterprises in Northwest Cambodia that had operated effectively and practically contributed to the economic development of Vietnam and Cambodia.
