Where to enjoy with your kids in Vietnam?

Though most of the entertainment sites in Vietnam are closed down due to the pandemic restrictions, you can still have some outdoor activities with your kids, but make sure you comply strictly with the 5K messages.

Short trips

For places where tourism is still allowed, you can plan short trips to enjoy International Children's Day with your kids. Airlines and tourism companies are running promotions, too.

For example, Bamboo Airways is holding a same-price ticket program from May 22 to June 6. FLC resort system also advertising activities for June in general and June 1 in particular.

High-class eco-resorts and separated tourist complexes in Vinh Phuc, Quy Nhon, Ha Long, Sam Son are among destinations most chosen by many families this summer, due to their rich utilities, spacious outdoor landscape, and especially, assurance of pandemic safety.

Bookstores

This year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, students left school early. Therefore, book publishers have published and re-published a series of new books with diverse content to serve the needs of readers. For anyone who loves reading, a bookstore may be an ideal place for them to relax and enjoy their interest. Taking children to bookstores also teaches them to love reading and to yearn for knowledge.

If you live in Hanoi, our recommendation would be Tien Phong Bookstore (17B Ngoc Ha, Ba Dinh District), Tien Tho Bookstores (424 Nguyen Trai, 828 Lang, 36 Xuan Thuy, 697 Giai Phong), Fahasa (Aeon Mall, Ha Dong district).

For Saigonese, we recommend Phuong Nam (3 Nguyen Oanh, Go Vap district), Ca Chep (211 - 213 Vo Van Tan, 223 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, 115 Nguyen Thai Hoc), Art Book (1B1 Nguyen Dinh Chieu).

International Children’s Day 2021 around the world

Council of Europe: Workshops held to mark Children's Day

The Council of Europe will organize an artistic workshop with children in Cahul (1/06/2021) to celebrate Children’s Day, through play and drawing activities with children and their parents. In addition, on the 4th of June, the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression will be marked by launching a mural in the Valea Morilor Park, in Chisinau.

All these events aim to raise awareness of children on child abuse, including in the online environment, prevention measures, as well as to encourage children to report any kind of physical or verbal abuse. During all three events, children will be informed about the national hotline “Child's phone” 116 111 where they could call in case of abuse and receive advice and help.

Summer camps allowed in the United States

The C.D.C. says unvaccinated children at U.S. camps can go without masks most of the time when they are outside, according to CNN. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated by the C.D.C. two weeks after receiving the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the second dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

“We’re going to start to see more and more adolescents fully vaccinated by mid-summer, so it is possible that camps could provide a camp experience for children who are fully vaccinated, and you could get back to the camp experience that was pre-pandemic: no masking, no distancing, and all the activities you would normally do,” said Erin Sauber-Schatz, who leads the C.D.C. task force for community interventions and critical populations.

China: Online and offline tours held for children

Trip.com, China's largest online travel agency, together with domestic zoos, such as Beijing Aquarium and Nantong Forest Safari Park, recently launched an "online zoo" event to Livestream star animals such as pandas, penguins, marmots, and killer whales. Besides online travel agencies, hotels such as the Westin Beijing Chaoyang and Grand Hyatt Beijing are also unveiling their respective event "2021 Children's Day Carnival" and "Ancient Egypt Family Room" to capture the market share.

When talking about family trips, theme parks cannot be ignored. Beijing Happy Valley, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, and Tianjin Polar Haichang Ocean Park all unveiled a series of events to take their best shot at the International Children's Day, which is celebrated on June 1, according to China News.

In fact, since the COVID-19 pandemic, China's family trips market has undergone some changes, with customers mainly focused on short-distance trips close to cities, among which zoos have long been popular.

Home-based activities to celebrate June 1 amid Covid-19

There really is a joy to be had as we reconnect with loved ones, and we need that connection. We can connect with family and friends, get outside to enjoy nature, play silly games; and find ways to do good and express gratitude for others, including the first responders and frontline workers who have saved so many.

Family movie night: Show a movie on the main television in your home (we have one TV, so this is easy). Serve popcorn and sodas and sing along to "Mary Poppins." CNN suggests watching Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader duke it out in "Star Wars," or a modern Disney classic.

Family dance party: Host a family dance party to all sorts of different music and show the kids you can boogie (or salsa). Invite more guests via Zoom, because you can invite anyone you love now, not just people in your local circle.

Lego challenges: Give everyone a bag of Lego pieces and charge your crew with building a house, a store, a park, their school, or a castle in the sky — and then set the timer. Creativity wins!

Map the neighborhood: Walk your neighborhood and see if your family can make a map from your house to another location. You'll be surprised at what they might notice.

Cooking challenge: Devise acooking challenge for your family, where you create a shortlist of ingredients that must be used in the meal. Think cheese and bread for the younger kids or novices and more advanced ingredients for the older/more experienced cooks.

Pick a book: Everyone in the family can pick a book they have never read and read it. Then everyone can come back to the family book club to report what they liked about the book (and eat cookies together). You can also read one chapter from a classic book out loud every night and ask everyone to listen. Some books and poetry were meant to be heard, not only read to oneself.

Plan a photoshoot: Choose a theme, select a location and get creative with props and costumes. Use a film camera or disposable camera to limit the number of shots and to work in an element of surprise with how they will turn out.

Camp out in your backyard: Even if you start totravel this summer, you can still pitch a tent in the backyard (or your living room if you don't have a backyard)for a few nights. You could even have a campfire in your backyard if your city and state allow it.
