President Phuc expressed his joy at the continued development of the bilateral extensive strategic partnership across the fields along with the high political trust and close bonds between leaders and people of the two countries, which is demonstrated in high-level visits, particularly the trip to Vietnam in October 2020 by Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide right after taking office, Vietnamplus reported.

The Vietnamese State leader extended an invitation to visit Vietnam to the Emperor and Empress of Japan and asked the Japanese Ambassador to continue promoting exchanges at all levels between the two countries.

Phuc also proposed that the two countries cooperate and support each other in Covid-19 prevention and control, while enhancing economic ties and encouraging Japanese businesses to expand their presence in Vietnam.

Ambassador Yamada said bilateral relations had developed strongly during the time Phuc served as Prime Minister of Vietnam. He expressed a hope that President Phuc will make a State-level visit to Japan during his Presidency term.

The Japanese Ambassador affirmed Japan’s consistent policy on attaching importance to relations with Vietnam. He said Japan will continue assisting Vietnam in fighting the pandemic.

He said Vietnam is an attractive destination for Japanese investors who want to diversify their supply chains, adding that Japan will push for cooperation in infrastructure development, digital transformation, and the environment.

The ambassador pledged to work closely with Vietnam in organizing celebrations of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2023, and in increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the foundation of the bilateral relationship.

The two sides also took the occasion to discuss regional and international issues of common concern.

Earlier, on May 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of shared concern over the phone.

According to VGP, Suga congratulated Chinh on his new role as the Prime Minister of Viet Nam, expressing his wish to work with Chinh to further advance the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan in the future.

Chinh highly valued Japan’s effective assistance for Viet Nam’s national development process during the past years.

He suggested Japan support Viet Nam in (i) developing hard and soft infrastructure in such fields as transport, environment, and digital transformation; (ii) increasing access to COVID-19 vaccines, including through technology transfer; (iii) promoting Japanese investment in the diversification of supply chain, and development of digital economy and digital society; increasing reception of Vietnamese trainees in Japan; (v) and helping to train a high-quality workforce.

Suga affirmed his nation’s consistent policy of placing importance on relations with Vietnam, and pledged continued support for Vietnam in infrastructure development, especially in the fields of transport, energy, environment, and space cooperation. Japan will offer Vietnam maximum support and collaboration to ensure that the nation has its necessary amount of Covid-19 vaccines. During the process of promoting supply chain diversification, the waves of Japanese investment into Vietnam have increased sharply, VOV quoted the prime minister.

The two prime ministers agreed to strengthen strategic dialogue between Vietnamese and Japanese ministries, sectors, and localities, and coordination to handle issues arising in the bilateral relations, Vietnamnet reported.

They said they will work together in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (in 2023) commensurate with the strategic partnership.

The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue. They agreed to continue working closely at multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations and ASEAN.

Japan aids Vietnam with Covid vaccine storage system worth 1.84 million USD

Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide announced non-refundable aid of 200 million JPY for a Covid-19 vaccine cold storage system for Vietnam, during a phone talk with State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said Japan treasured relations with Vietnam and pledged to continue closely cooperating with and support the country to develop in the time ahead, during a phone call with Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

In that spirit, the Japanese government decided to provide Vietnam with non-refundable aid of 200 million JPY (1.84 million U.S. dollars) for a Covid-19 vaccine cold storage system. It will also present Vietnam marine scientific research vessels and open its Consulate General in Da Nang City in 2022.

Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always considered Japan as a strategic, long-term and leading important partner and highly spoke of Japan's effective and practical cooperation for Vietnam’s socio-economic development, including the cold vaccine storage system.

He also requested for Japan to collaborate and assist Vietnam in Covid-19 vaccines as well as provide support for the Vietnamese community in Japan.
