Japan donates billion dong to Vietnam's fight against COVID-19

Japan provided 455 billion VND to 4 hospitals in order to purchase equipment to enhance medical examination and treatment capacity.

On the afternoon of September 7, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long and Mr. Yamada Takio - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam - signed an exchange note between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Japan on Non-refundable aid helps Vietnam to prevent and combat Covid-19 epidemic.

"The aid that the Government of Japan grants Vietnam is valuable", Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said at the signing ceremony of the exchange note between the two governments on the grant aid for COVID-19 pandemic prevention in the afternoon of September 7, VN Express cited.

Four hospitals that receive the mentioned aid including Central Lung Hospital, National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, National Institute of Hematology - Blood Transfusion, and Hospital C Da Nang. The grant is implemented in 18 months from August 2020.

The overall goal of this grant is to provide technical assistance to upgrade medical equipment to 4 hospitals to meet the needs of Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control and limit the incidence and mortality by nCoV; to meet the needs of medical examination and treatment and ensure the quality of health of the people.

In the note exchange ceremony, Mr. Yamada Takio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, highly appreciated the role of the Ministry of Health in successfully preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ambassador reminded that when Japan ran a scarcity of masks this spring, it was the Government of Vietnam that sent over 1.2 million masks to help the Japanese people.

"That gift is highly appreciated by the Japanese people. The Japanese would like to thanks for the gift and the warm affection of the Vietnamese people," the Ambassador added.

After the signing ceremony, Acting Minister Nguyen Thanh Long and Ambassador Yamada Takio discussed some medical issues related to the resumption of commercial routes between the two countries.

Over the past years, the medical cooperation between Vietnam and Japan has been continuously expanded and developed. Japan is currently one of the largest bilateral ODA donors for the health sector in particular. Through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Government of Japan has supported the Vietnamese health sector with numerous grant projects, technical cooperation and concessional loans.

All projects in cooperation with Japan have been implemented effectively, comprehensively, and sustainably, bringing positive contributions to the health care of the people, including strengthening capacity for preventive medicine and disease prevention; investment in the hospital infrastructure, diagnosis, treatment, patient care, and hospital management, according to Viettimes.
