Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on May 8 symbolically handed over 140,000 masks to the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Yamada Takio, according to information from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, on April 17, Vietnam presented face masks and other medical supplies worth $100,000 to Japan.

At the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized said that as long-term, trusted strategic partners, Vietnam and Japan have actively share information and cooperated closely in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Trung highly appreciated the measures taken by the Japanese Government in combating the COVID-19, at the same time, sympathizing with Japanese over their loss caused by the pandemic.

The Deputy Minister also gave thanks to the Japanese Government’s support for Vietnam as well as Vietnamese community in Japan in the fight against the coronavirus.

For his part, Ambassador Yamada deeply thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for this valuable support.

He expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s effective COVID-19 fight and said that that was an exemplary response to the pandemic.

The Ambassador affirmed that Japan will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam in COVID-19 prevention and control, support Vietnam in socio-economic developments as well as enhance cooperation on international forums, especially when Vietnam is taking the role of both ASEAN Chair for 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Ambassador Yamada also expressed his honor to be appointed Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, affirming that he will make every effort to contribute to the development of good friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

As of May 8, Japan reported 15,649 cases of COVID-19 infection, 606 deaths.
