Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh officially becomes VUFO’s Vice Chairman

The third conference of the VUFO Presidium term VI was held in Hanoi on January 14 to review the VUFO’s performance in 2020 as well as set the directions for 2021.
The conference also elected new Vice Chairman. Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh was elected as Vice Chairman for the 2019-2024 term.
Attending the conference were: Secretary of the Party's designated representation of, VUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Phuong Nga; Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of VUFO Phan Anh Son, members of the Presidium along with representatives of some central agencies, ministries, etc.
At the meeting, delegates discussed and approved the report on personnel changes of the Standing Committee, the Presidium and the Inspection Committee of VUFO (from July 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020).
Also at the conference, the delegates heard the 2020 work summary report, and the focus of the activities in 2021. Many delegates expressed their agreement and appreciated the results that VUFO has achieved in 2020 and provide comments on the tasks outlined for 2021.
VUFO Vice Chairman cum Secretary General Phan Anh Son said the union provided timely aid to international friends in fighting the pandemic last year, with total funding amounting to about VND 13 billion (USD 563,500 ).
Meanwhile, through the union, 115 non-government organizations (NGOs) sent more than USD 6.5 million in cash and kind to Vietnam during the fight, he added.
The Friendship Union intensified the application of information technology, he said, as well as online people-to-people exchanges in the context of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, helping to enhance friendship and cooperation between the people of Vietnam and foreign countries.

Among the other tasks outlined for 2021, the VUFO will move to effectively strengthen co-operation with partners in an effort to overcome consequences of previous conflicts, including the impact of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin, unexploded bombs and mines, as well as the aftermath of natural disasters and epidemics.
It will also gather international support for Vietnam in its endeavour to defend national sovereignty of the sea and islands, while simultaneously promoting dialogues and fighting for issues relating to religion, democracy, and human rights.
The organization will take an active role in participating in regional and international people’s forums and mechanisms as a means of expanding the country’s network of friends whilst mobilizing international support to protect national interests and refute any false and hostile views.
It was reported that last year, despite the impact of the epidemic, the VUFO was able to maintain people-to-people diplomacy onlin and share Vietnam’s experience in successfully controlling the disease.
The VUFO and its chapters were able to provide approximately 900,000 masks, 5,500 medical protective suits, and over 3,100 bottles of hand sanitizers valued at roughly VND 13 billion (USD 560.900) for citizens of other countries to use in their fight against COVID-19.

Addressing the conference, VUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said that amidst the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the union has overcome difficulties and strived to adapt to the new situation.
“VUFO will continue to strongly innovate, promote its role as a core force in people-to-people diplomacy work, improving the quality of efficiency in all fields of peace, friendship, and aid mobilization, external information research, building and organization development. In 2021, VUFO will also focus on solving problems in building VUFO's organizational system to ensure its members at the central and local levels are guaranteed the necessary conditions to complete their tasks. service," stressed Ms. Nga.
The VUFO Chairwoman also expressed her confidence in the spirit of proactive, active, flexible and creative. VUFO will enter the new year of 2021 with determination, she said. On the basis of the achievements in the past year, each team and individual of VUFO will be enriched with enthusiasm and successfully complete the assigned tasks in 2021.
