NA approves Nguyen Tan Dung’s relief of Prime Minister

On April 6th, 84% of National Assembly (NA) deputies voted to agree to relieve Nguyen Tan Dung of the Prime Minister through secret ballot. A resolution dismissing him from the Government leader position was also approved.

On April 6th, 84% of National Assembly (NA) deputies voted to agree to relieve Nguyen Tan Dung of the Prime Minister through secret ballot. A resolution dismissing him from the Government leader position was also approved.

NA approves Nguyen Tan Dung’s relief of Prime Minister

On behalf of the NA, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented flowers and said thanks to Nguyen Tan Dung.

Earlier, State President Tran Dai Quang read the proposal at the National Assembly on the relief of duty of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

“On his term of duty, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has always fulfilled his tasks. However, due to the required changes in the Party and State personnel after the 12th National Party Congress, the State President asked the NA deputies to approve the discharge of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s duty,” he said.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, was born in 1949 in the southern province of Ca Mau. He was alternate member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) term VI and full PCC member term VII, VIII, IX, X and XI; Politburo member term VIII, IX, X and XI; and NA deputy term X, XI, XII, XIII.

Since 2006, he has held the positions of the Prime Minister, the Secretary of the Government Party Committee, Head of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention; Vice Head of the Council on National Defence and Security; Head of the Central Emulation and Rewards Council; Head of the National Education Council; Head of the Government’s Steering Committee on Administrative Reform; Head of the Steering Committee on Building and Developing Military Industry; Head of the National Steering Committee on Response to Climate Change; Head of the Sub-Committee on building the socio-economic development strategy in the 2011-2020 period.

On the same day, the State President submitted the nomination of the new Prime Minister at the NA before the vote for the new Prime Minister which will be carried out on April 7th. As planned, the new Prime Minister will take an oath at the NA after being elected.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is nominated for the position.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc, 62, was born in the central province of Quang Nam. He was Director of the Quang Nam – Danang provincial Department of Tourism, the provincial Department of Planning and Investment; Deputy Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee; Government’s Inspector Vice General; and Minister – Head of the Office of the Government.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is PCC member term X, XI and XII; Politburo member term XI and XII; and NA deputy term XI and XIII./.
