Overseas Vietnamese in Fukuoka (Japan) Celebrate Tet of Great Solidarity

On January 11 and 12, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka and the Vietnam Trade and Investment Promotion Association in Kyushu, hosted the 2025 Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) Festival at Island Eye Fukuoka.

The festival was graced by the presence of Ambassador of Vietnam to Japan, Pham Quang Hieu; Vu Chi Mai, Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, Japan; Nguyen Duy Anh, Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, Japan, alongside representatives from local authorities, international friends, and a significant number of overseas Vietnamese from Kyushu, Okinawa, and Central and Southern Japan.

During the opening ceremony, Vu Chi Mai, Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, remarked that 2025 marks a pivotal year, ushering in a new era for the nation - a time for the people at home and abroad to unite and rise together. She emphasized that this year has been chosen to convey the nation’s strong aspirations for development, which is why the Xuan Que Huong 2025 Organizing Committee has selected the theme, "Tet Xuan Que Huong 2025 - Tet Dai Doan Ket" (Tet of Homeland 2025 - Tet of Great Solidarity).

Mai highlighted that the Vietnamese community in Japan serves not only as a bridge between the two countries but also plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting national cultural values. She noted that 2025 offers a unique opportunity for the community to continue fostering the robust friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

Omagari Akie, Deputy Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, said that the Vietnamese are the largest community in Fukuoka, contributing across various fields. In October 2024, Fukuoka Prefecture launched the "FUKUOKA IS OPEN Center," which consolidates specialized agencies of the province and related countries to provide consultation services for foreigners on matters related to life, employment status, and residence status. The provincial government is committed to making the "FUKUOKA IS OPEN Center" a reliable support system for foreigners, including the Vietnamese population in Fukuoka. Additionally, Fukuoka Prefecture signed a friendship cooperation agreement with Hanoi to implement the One Health Program to establish a sustainable health system for humans, animals, and nature.

At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu and Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai presented the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to two Japanese citizens for their significant contributions to the development of Vietnam-Japan relations. Certificates of Merit from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were also awarded to four individuals and three groups within the Vietnamese community in Fukuoka.

The festival showcased numerous traditional Vietnamese cultural activities associated with the Lunar New Year, including writing parallel sentences, human chess, con throwing, and bamboo dancing. Additionally, around 70 booths offered a diverse array of cuisine and high-quality products from both Vietnam and Japan. The event's highlight was the "Global Supermodel Junior 2025" contest, which attracted nearly 30 contestants from various countries.

Nguyen Duy Anh, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, expressed his hope that the festival would help build a civilized and united Vietnamese community in Japan, promote the image of Vietnam to Japanese friends, and contribute practically to strengthening the friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries.
