Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals In Australia Promote Cooperation With Vietnam
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Consul General Nguyen Dang Thang emphasized that Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy attaches special importance to science and technology in all fields, Vietnam considered science and technology as the foundation to develop quickly and sustainably.
The Consul General was pleased to say that the cooperation between Vietnam and Australia was developing very well. In 2021, the Prime Ministers of the two countries signed a Strategy to strengthen economic cooperation focusing on eight key areas, from economics to education and training, which all involved in science and technology.

He also encouraged the club to gather more members to develop a team of leading scientists and experts in Australia, becoming a leader in the Vietnamese scientific community in the world.
Club members have achieved many achievements in research and application of science and technology, contributed to the successful implementation of the strategy strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
At the meeting, Professor Nghiem Duc Long, Director of the Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Chairman of the club, reviewed some outstanding activities of the club and presented the plan for the future.
Mr. Long said that over the past two years, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the club was unable to organize face-to-face activities, but members still achieved many achievements related to scientific and technological research and cooperation activities between the two countries, especially participating in implementing 10 out of 14 innovative projects through the Aus4Innovation Program.

The club will promote connection activities, expand the network of focal points in NSW to be able to effectively launch cooperation projects with partners in Vietnam. The club will participate in training and supporting PhD students and students from Vietnam to study at universities in NSW, continue to organize innovation competitions for Vietnamese students at Australia.
Sharing information with club members, Mr. Trinh Dang Ha, Head of the Office of Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology in Sydney, said that the second phase of the Aus4Innovation Program was expected to be approved by the middle of this year with a budget of AUD 3 million (USD 2.1 million) per year. It focused on high-tech agriculture such as the application of artificial intelligence in food preservation and plant varieties.
Australia's Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources has been allocated for the first time a funding of 1.5 million AUD (USD 1.05 million) to work with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to develop the joint cooperation program in the field of science and technology by the end of this year.
Founded in 2018, the Vietnamese Overseas Intellectuals Club in New South Wales, Australia aims to gather and direct the activities of scientists in New South Wales, thereby to connect with science community in the country, to contribute to promoting bilateral cooperation of the two countries. In the trend of the fourth industrial revolution, and building a startup ecosystem, the OV intellectuals in Australia and New South Wales state in particular constitute one of the important factors to facilitate the process, he held. |
