Vietnamese nationals living in Japan organized a football tournament to celebrate 50 years of Vietnam - Japan relations

The football tournament of the Vietnamese community studying, working, and living in Japan titled "FAVIJA HOKURIKU CUP 2023" was held at Kibagata Park Stadium, Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan.

The tournament is organized by the Vietnam - Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA) under the auspices of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.

This is a cultural and sports exchange activity in the series of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (1973-2023). It also provided an opportunity for sports fans to exercise and exchange, thus consolidating the Vietnamese community in Japan in general and in Ishikawa in particular.

The tourney saw the participation of 16 amateur teams of Vietnamese and Japanese.

Participating in the tournament, there are 16 amateur teams of Vietnamese and Japanese.

Hiroyuki Yoneda, a Japanese supporter shared that this is his second time going to watch and cheer for Vietnamese young people to compete in football. "Seeing there are girls wearing ao dai, and stalls selling Vietnamese food like pho, and bread. It's like a festival! Come here to cheer me on, I feel that Vietnamese young people are full of life."

At the end of the tournament, the championship belongs to FC Fusan, the runner-up belongs to FC Lam Hong. Individual titles were also presented to the top goalscorers and goalkeepers.

The top four will compete at a football tournament for overseas Vietnamese across Japan slated for the middle of December 2023 in Tokyo.

Earlier this month, the Vietnam Association in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka prefecture, held a sports festival, the second of its kind, at Onga Sports Center in Kitakyushu.

The festival attracted about 1,000 athletes and spectators from Vietnam, Japan, Myanmar, Indonesia, and China. The contestants competed in six sports, namely men's football, table tennis, tennis, badminton, 1,000m relay race, and tug of war.
