Overseas Vietnamese supports homeland in Covid-19 fight

Talking to Vietnam Times Magazine, Duong Van Luan, Chairman of the Vietnam - Czech - Slovakia Friendship Association in Bac Giang province, representative of the Bac Giang fellow-countrymen Association in the Czech Republic said the although the donation was small, it demonstrated sentiment, attention, and goodwill of Bac Giang's people in the Czech Republic towards their hometown, which has been hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the blazing hot weather, representatives of the Bac Giang fellow-countrymen Association distributed districts of Hiep Hoa, Yen Dung, Tan Yen and Viet Yen and Bac Giang city each 2 tons of rice.
Beneficiaries include Hiep Hoa, Yen Dung, Tan Yen, Viet Yen districts and Bac Giang city. |
“Apart from providing necessities to Bac Giang, the association has launched the donation campaign to aid the province’s Covid-19 vaccine fund. Responding to the call, the association’s members, overseas Vietnamese in the Czech Republic and benefactors have contributed VND 20 million. The aid will be soon transferred to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang,” Luan said.

Previously, on the afternoon of May 28, the Vietnam Times collaborated with benefactors to donate medical supplies worth more than VND 60 million to aid Bac Giang in the fight against Covid-19. The Vietnam Times and various organizations have gifted various medical supplies to Bag Giang province. The supplies include 3,000 antibacterial cloth masks, 2,500 medical masks, 400 sets of protective suits for children, 100 anti-drop glasses, 67 boxes of instant noodles, 33 barrels of water, 20 boxes of salted lemon, 500 toothbrushes, 510 bars of soap, 500 tubes of toothpaste, 500 packs of shampoo, nearly 100 bottles of antibacterial spray. Immediately after receiving the goods, the Vietnam-Czech-Slovakia Friendship Association in Bac Giang transported and donated them three Covid hotspots: Viet Tien commune, Viet Yen district, and the Provincial Center for Disease Control and Provincial Hospital of Traditional Medicine. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, there was no gifting ceremony, with volunteers just delivering goods to ensure the requirements of disease prevention and control. Talking to the Vietnam Times, Duong Van Luan thanked the publication for becoming a bridge between donors and individuals who want to help the people of Bac Giang, contributing to better human values and sharing in society. In particular, he thanked benefactors from Thanh Hoa City, Ho Chi Minh City and many regions of the country who have joined hands with Bac Giang to fight the pandemic. |
Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association of Thai Binh province on May 31, in coordination with the Thai Binh fellow-countrymen Association in Moscow (Russia) gifted benches to the Provincial General Hospital to support it in Covid-19 prevention and control.
A total of 30 benches, worth VND 65 million were contributed by Thai Binh people in Moscow as well as officers and members of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association of the province. Each bench is 2.4m in length, 30cm in width and made of good-quality wood.
This is a practical and meaningful gift that helps the Thai Binh General hospital to ensure a safe distance among patients.

The gift also shows the spirit, responsibility and solidarity of Thai Binh citizens living and working in Moscow as well as of officials and members of the Vietnam- Russia Friendship Association in Covid-19 prevention and control.
Last year, the Thai Binh fellow-countrymen Association in Russia also handed over 10,000 cloth masks to overseas Vietnamese and Russians in Moscow.
Vietnam was hit by a new Covid-19 wave more than five weeks ago and 4,781 infections have since then been recorded in 37 of its 63 cities and provinces. Bac Giang and Bac Ninh now have the highest number of infections, at 2,565 and 927. Ever since the pandemic broke out, the nation has registered 7,870 cases, including 3,085 recoveries and 49 deaths. |
