235 new cases over the last 24 hours

Vietnam recorded 50 more Covid-19 infections, including two imported cases, from 6 am to 12 pm on June 2, lifting the national tally to 7,675, according to the Ministry of Health. The ministry said among the new cases detected on June 2 morning, 35 were in Bac Giang province, 12 in Bac Ninh, and one in central Da Nang city.

138 new Covid-19 infections, including 128 domestically transmitted cases were logged from 12 pm to 6 pm on June 2. Of the locally transmitted cases, 74 were recorded in Bac Giang province, which is now the country’s largest pandemic hotspot, 31 in Ho Chi Minh City, 16 in Bac Ninh, six in Hanoi, and one in Hai Duong. The imported cases have been quarantined upon their arrival in Kien Giang province and Ho Chi Minh City.

57 new patients, including one imported, confirmed Thursday morning in four northern localities. Bac Giang Province recorded 32 cases linked to hotspots at its industrial parks. Its neighbor Bac Ninh Province registered 20 cases. Lang Son Province reported three cases. Hai Duong found one case.

Managing board of COVID-19 vaccine fund established

The Ministry of Finance has issued a decision on the establishment of a managing board of the Fund for Vaccination Prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019. The board is headed by Nguyen Quang Vinh, Deputy General Director of the State Treasury of Vietnam.

The fund is set up to receive, manage, and use voluntary financial and vaccine donations and assistance from domestic and foreign organizations and individuals, along with other legal sources, for the Covid-19 vaccine procurement and import, research and production in the country, and the provision of vaccines for people.

Managed by the Ministry of Finance, the not-for-profit fund will use the mobilized capital resources for the right purposes and in line with legal regulations, ensuring publicity, transparency, and efficiency. It is subject to the examination, inspection, and auditing by relevant State agencies and to the supervision by the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the community.

The finance ministry said as of June 2 afternoon, the fund had received VND 44 billion (US$ 1.91 million) from donors, which was channeled through the State Treasury and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

A military-developed robot sent to Bac Giang to support Covid-19 fight

A medical robot manufactured by the Military Technology Academy to support Covid-19 prevention and control activities was sent to the current largest pandemic hot spot in the northern province of Bac Giang on June 1.

The robot, called “Vibot,” is the result of a scientific research project conducted by the academy since April 2020. It has been piloted in Bac Thang Long Hospital and the second facility of Bach Mai Hospital with positive results.

In Bac Giang, Vibot will take the charge of transporting food, medicine, necessities, and other stuff from outside to patient rooms, taking trash from the rooms to garbage collection areas, and serving remote conversations between the patients and their families members.

'Zero supermarkets' appear in Bac Giang to help people in pandemic areas

Twenty-one 'zero dong supermarkets' have sprung up in Covid-19 hotspot Bac Giang, supplying thousands of stranded workers. Thanks to the free supermarket, the workers have more food to eat during the day.

The idea of setting up a "Zero dong supermarket" was implemented by the donors outside Bac Giang, with the goal of supporting more than 30,000 people stuck in the province. Ten supermarkets simultaneously opened on May 22 in two districts of Viet Yen and Yen Dung. On May 27, the number of supermarkets increased to 21, concentrated in areas with a large number of workers. Supplies are donated by local unions, benefactors, and businesses.

After five days of opening, the supermarket has attracted attention from more donors and sponsors. Thanks to their support, in addition to food, the supermarket had a number of other items delivered like soap, shampoo, and women's necessities.

In order to receive donated supplies, innkeepers must list the names of workers, with their temporary residence paperwork. Staff will sort and divide the necessities they currently have in stock. In addition, innkeepers can also recommend special goods workers are in need of. Once done preparing these necessities, staff will take turns calling on groups of innkeepers to collect it to ensure there are no crowds.

Long An imposes social distancing in wake of Covid cluster

A town and four districts in Long An Province will adopt social distancing measures from Wednesday until further notice. The move came as the province recorded eight Covid-19 cases in the past five days.

As decided by the Mekong Delta province, Tan An Town and the four districts of Duc Hoa, Ben Luc, Can Duoc, and Can Giuoc will follow Directive 15, which requires suspension of social events, bans gatherings of 20 people or more in one place and of 10 people or more outside workplaces, schools, and hospitals, requesting a minimum distance of two meters between people in public.

Aside from setting up Covid-19 checkpoints along its gateways, Long An has requested all people entering the province from infected areas in HCMC between May 20 and June 1 to be tested for the new coronavirus and isolate themselves at home. Those arriving from areas not hit by Covid-19 in HCMC have to sign agreements stating they will avoid going out as much as possible.
