Role models in Vietnam family business
People know Thanh Quy Tran not just as the billionaire founder of Dr. Thanh Herbal Tea but also as a devoted husband and father.
The touching stories of Quy Thanh Tran and his love for his daughter are part of the many stages of emotions in the journey to success for Tan Hiep Phat.
Quy Thanh Tran and Uyen Phuong Tran are role models of Vietnamese family relations.
20 years after establishment, Tan Hiep Phat Group earned revenue of US$ 500 million. Thanh became Vietnam Tea King after overcoming countless obstacles.
Taking advantage of the US ending a trade embargo against Vietnam in 1994, this brilliant businessman set long-term targets for Dr. Thanh Herbal Tea to enter foreign markets.
Today, THP is Vietnam's largest privately-owned beverage producer. THP currently sells more than one billion liters of green tea, herbal tea, energy drinks, dairy drinks in Vietnam and 16 other countries.
Thanh aims to triple the productivity in the next 5 years, further cementing the company as a Vietnam beverage giant.
Graduating from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Quy Thanh Tran was once an engineer who struggled to make ends meet.
He and his wife went through all kinds of jobs, sugar traders and dealers, before buying their first beverage production line in 1994.
They started from scratch with limited resources and worked hard to build the Ben Thanh beverage factory. This is the foundation of the multi-million dollar Tan Hiep Phat Group.
Through much effort, dedication, and hard work, Thanh refused to give up when he thought about his wife's wholehearted sacrifice.
He never forgot the image of his pregnant wife on a motorcycle working hard when they couldn't afford to hire any employees.
He set out to work and provide for his family so they could live a much more comfortable life.

For Uyen Phuong Tran's parents, there is no limit to their ambition. They are relentless in pursuing their dreams. Tran Uyen Phuong says that everything that they believe is encapsulated in THP's seven core values.
The core value is: "Nothing is impossible. There are no limits to what we can accomplish."
Every step on the way, Thanh has had the best support from his children. He had many unfortunate experiences in his childhood, from being an orphan to being hungry and poor. But now, he is blessed with talented and wonderful daughters and a son: Uyen Phuong Tran, Ngoc Bich Tran, and Quoc Dung Tran.

The eldest daughter, Uyen Phuong Tran, is a special treasure. Thanh thinks of Phuong as his trusted right arm and THP can become stronger thanks to her.
"Having a daughter is the best thing one could ask for in life," he said.
Discipline builds character
Uyen Phuong Tran said that she has a very strict father who does not pamper or spoil his children. She would often get punished for even the smallest mistakes.

“I used to be very scared as a child. He did not condone any misbehaving. Once, my sister was punished for jumping on the roof of a Tan Hiep Phat employee's car," said Uyen Phuong Tran.
He wanted her to understand that she needed to respect all employees. Her father would not allow them to consider themselves as "the center of the universe". He ensured they respected others.
Thanh's biography, written by his daughter, shows a series of ups and downs, failures, scandals, and discord. She described the THP journey from the early mistakes brewing beer, to finding an exit with soft drink production.
THP currently dominates the domestic beverage market. Now that Uyen Phuong Tran and Ngoc Bich Tran have taken over the business, Thanh and his wife can finally enjoy writing, reading, and leading a relaxing life.
As his beloved wife says, Thanh is a true family man.
