Quang Yen coastal economic zone includes the functional areas in line with its development targets. The scale and location of each functional area will be determined in the building planning of the competent authorities, Thoi Dai reported.

The Quang Yen coastal economic zone is located in the Southwest of Quang Ninh province, covering an area of ​​13,303 hectares, including the complex area of urban, industry, high technology, seaport and the area of seaport, industry and urban Dam Nha Mac.

The complex area of urban, industry and high technology in Uong Bi city and Quang Yen town has a total area of ​​6,403.7 hectares, in which, the former covers 2,551 hectares in five wards namely Phuong Nam, Phuong Dong, Yen Thanh, Quang Trung, and Trung Vuong; the latter covers an area of 3,852.7 hectares in eight communes and wards: namely Dong Mai, Minh Thanh, Song Khoai, Cong Hoa, Hiep Hoa, Yen Giang, Tan An, and Hoang Tan.

The area of seaport, industry and urban Dam Nha Mac is situated in Quang Yen Town, with an area of ​​6,899.3 hectares in seven wards and communes namely Nam Hoa, Yen Hai, Phong Coc, Phong Hai, Tien Phong, Lien, and Lien Hoa.

The Quang Yen coastal economic zone is the close combination between the investment attraction, economic development with national defense and security assurance, preservation and promotion of the values of marine ecosystems as well as historical and cultural relics in the area.

The Quang Yen coastal economic zone aims at lifting into a multi-sector coastal economic zone, forming an industrial center, port logistics services and smart urban area of Quang Ninh province and the Red River Delta. Thus, the economic zone will create a modern living environment by developing synchronously technical and social infrastructure as well as high-tech fields.

In addition, the Quang Yen coastal economic zone is expected to create jobs and enhance the quality of workforces, which can help to increase their incomes.

The constructing and developing planning of the Quang Yen coastal economic zone contains three phases. Specifically, phase I (2020- 2021): Building basic infrastructure served projects in the economic zones, Phase II (2021 – 2025): Building infrastructure systems and functional areas, Phase III (2026 - 2035): Synchronously investing in infrastructure systems and step by step forming a smart city.
