Amid complicated developments of the Covid-19, Vietnam has decided to temporarily suspend and restrict the entry of foreigners and overseas Vietnamese in order to focus on implementing pandemic prevention and control measures in the country, reported VNA, citing the Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang during the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi on May 13.

She also noted that earlier Vietnam had also suspended entry of foreigners and only allowed entry of investors, technical experts, highly-skilled workers and business managers on the condition of meeting quarantine and medical requirements.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry is closely following and keeping updated on the pandemic situation in other countries and coordinating with relevant agencies so as to make appropriate decisions on relaxing or tightening entry of each group of people, thus ensuring the double goal of containing the pandemic and recovering economic growth, Hang said.

The Covid-19 situation remains complex in many countries, including some sharing the borderlines with Vietnam.

Many countries and territories have also recorded the emergence of new coronavirus variants that are more transmissible and dangerous such as the variants first found in the UK and India.

After 14 days of the virus resurgence, Vietnam recorded nearly 600 cases spanning 26 cities and provinces, mostly in the north and surrounding areas of Hanoi.

As of the noon on May 13, the national count rose to 3,710, with 2,253 domestic and 1,457 imported cases. Meanwhile, 77,648 people are being quarantined nationwide.

Since Vietnam has suspended the entry of all foreigners on March 22, 2020, five groups of foreigners are allowed to enter the country, including diplomats, officials, foreign investors, experts, and skilled workers.

They come to Vietnam with special entry permits granted by Vietnamese authorities after meeting requirements by representatives of the aforementioned five ministries.

Regarding Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in India, Vietnamese representative offices in India have been closely coordinating with relevant agencies of both Vietnam and India to provide support to those citizens. Hang added that a patient in critical condition among the eight Vietnamese Covid-19 patients in New Delhi has recovered.

She affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in India is continuing to work with relevant agencies and doctors in Vietnam to maintain contact with the citizens and is ready to help them when necessary./.
