Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan said that labor cooperation is one of the main fields in bilateral relations.

Hoan stressed that sending Vietnamese people to work abroad is a major policy of the Vietnamese Government to create high-quality human resources. It helps the workers to generate jobs and income, support skills and professionalism improvement, especially for those who return home after working in the RoK to the Fatherland.

Also, he believed that the cooperation will contribute to strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK. He sent words of encouragement to Vietnamese workers, hoping that they will make the most of the RoK’s new policy related to improve their skills and to meet the host country's requirements.

Representing the Siheung city government, Director of the Siheung City Welfare Department Yu Je Hong, said there are currently about 10,000 Vietnamese people living here.

The Korean director believed the 2023 Vietnamese Labor Day event being held in Siheung city has a special meaning. This occasion opens up opportunities for the local people to exchange and experience traditional Vietnamese cuisine, culture and arts. Siheung City is committed to making efforts to implement programs to support foreign residents, said Yu Je Hong, in parallel with building Siheung City into a multicultural area, helping foreigners, including the Vietnamese community, stabilize life and develop.

From 2004 until now, there have been nearly 130,000 Vietnamese workers coming to Korea to work under the Employment Permit System (EPS) E9 visa program, as well as thousands of highly skilled workers with E7 visas (The E-7 visa is a type of work visa for foreign nationals who are coming to South Korea to work in designated fields. The visa is meant for professionals with specialized skills that are in short supply in South Korea). According to VNA, in the past two years alone, the number of Vietnamese workers entering Korea reached an impressive number of 10,000 people/year.
