Solutions to Attract Viet Intellectuals in Australia to contribute to Homeland
According to Nguyen Dang Thang, the Vietnamese community in Australia consists of about 350,000 people, accounting for about 1.3% of the country's population. About 500 highly qualified Vietnamese intellectual experts have contributed to important fields in Australia. They work as consultants in the Australian Government for projects in Vietnam or on carbon certificates. Many are involved in standardizing Australia's processes and standards in construction, infrastructure, iron and steel, aviation, investment, finance, and tax.

According to Nguyen Dang Thang, overseas experts and intellectuals in Australia want to contribute to Vietnam's development. Vietnamese Australian Scholars Experts Association can contribute and give suggestions to the government on policies and issues that Vietnam is facing with a more flexible mechanism. They can act as a consulting member for Government projects and programs, and support and build high-quality human resources for Vietnam through offering online training courses. They can support Vietnamese research groups in Australia and Vietnamese business delegations to approach partners in Australia.
To attract intellectual resources from overseas Vietnamese, the Vietnamese Consul General in Sydney, Australia Nguyen Dang Thang believes that it is necessary to pay attention to the following three areas.
First, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese continues to promote its role as a focal point to connect overseas Vietnamese intellectual experts around the world. It needs to connect with self-established associations to build a network of overseas experts and intellectuals. Besides, it needs to coordinate with ministries, departments, and branches to share information about issues that the Vietnamese government needs to consult with the network of overseas Vietnamese intellectual experts. It is necessary to accurately determine which experts and intellectuals understand Vietnam to give recommendations.
Second, build a basis for teaching and sharing information with overseas experts and intellectuals about Vietnam's current issues.
Third, organize regular meetings and exchanges among intellectual expert associations in foreign countries, especially about major events, issues, and challenges such as climate change and digital transformation.
In August 2023, the Vietnamese Australian Scholars Experts Association (VASEA) was established after merging Overseas Vietnamese Intellectual Clubs in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria (all established in 2018) and welcomed new members who are Vietnamese experts in other Australian states and territories. |
