Trump is proposing to limit student visas for citizens from 59 countries
The 59 countries included countries that are supposed to sponsor terrorism, such as Iran, Syria, Sudan and North Korea, and the country with high proportion of people stay in the United States beyond visa limit, such as Vietnam, Nigeria, Nepal, according to VN Express.
After the 2-year period, international students must apply for an extension. At present, it is not clear whether the US government will be able to reject their application, especially those pursuing study programs longer than 2 years.
It is expected that this new move will prevent security risks and more effectively control the student's consent to the US government.
If approved, these proposals will cause many students planning to study in the US to reconsider, resulting in the possibility that the US loses a large financial supply. Each year the US attracts an average of 32 million USD and more than 300,000 jobs thanks to the international student force, according to New American Economy.
However, this proposal is unlikely to be passed because Donald Trump may not win the office after the coming election. If re-elected, he will have four more years to put this proposal into practice.

Trump administration and its history of limiting student visa
This is not the first time the Trump administration tries to narrow down the visa limit of international students coming to the United States. In July, President Trump planned to cut off all students' visas in the online program, after the school switched from direct to online study due to Covid-19. The plan was eventually dropped after many universities filed an objection and even sued the federal government.
President Trump has also imposed tougher regulations for international graduates and wants to seek careers in the US, mainly through the H-1B visa system for skilled workers. This is a gateway to international talent working in the US, focusing on high-demand professions such as computer science, engineering, education, or medicine.
During the pandemic, President Trump signed a decision to suspend all the entry of international workers to the US until the end of 2020. This can be seen as a strong action aimed at newly graduated international students.
The Trump administration has also taken drastic action to combat student visa fraud by adopting unorthodox methods, and increasing student visa-related penalties.
According to the immigration authority's 2018 regulatory proposal, minor errors such as reporting the wrong address, failing a subject can prevent students from applying for a new visa or banning entry to the US for 10 years. Fortunately, this proposal was rejected by the Federal Court.
