The operation of TikTok in the United States continuously struggles with both President Donald Trump and Joe Biden's policies, urging its owner to sell the operation.

President Donald Trump said on Friday he would sign an executive order as soon as Saturday to ban TikTok in the United States, reported by Reuters.

As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

I will sign the document tomorrow,” he said on Friday night, indicating that a ban could take effect “essentially immediately.”

The move would be the culmination of U.S. national security concerns over the safety of the personal data that TikTok handles. It would represent a major blow for TikTok’s owner, Beijing-based ByteDance, said Reuters.

Besides, staffers from Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential campaign must remove TikTok from personal and work phones, a campaign official told The Verge. That’s because this app is blamed for security loss.

As relations between the United States and China deteriorate over trade, Hong Kong’s autonomy, cyber security and the spread of the novel coronavirus, TikTok has emerged as a flashpoint in the dispute between the world’s two largest economies, according to Reuters.

TikTok can access users’ clipboard content on iOS — potentially a problem for anyone using a password manager to log into secure accounts.

The US departments of State and Homeland Security, the US Army, and the US Navy have already banned TikTok on government issued-devices, and the Democratic and Republican national committees have warned against using the app, reported by The Verge.

Amid the US and China tension, a number of businesses have applied TikTok ban such as Amazon, Wells Fargo.

Reuters reported Saturday that ByteDance had agreed to sell its American operations to prevent the Trump administration from banning it in the US, and, that Microsoft would be in charge of protecting US user data. The plan would have allowed another American company to take over TikTok in the US.

Microsoft and other companies have been in talks to buy TikTok, but a deal has not yet been reached, the person added. Many of the parties are waiting for Mr. Trump to take action, one of the people said, reported by New York Times.

TikTok US General Manager Vanessa Pappas said in a video on Saturday that “we’re not planning on going anywhere” and the company is “here for the long run.”

If Microsoft were to succeed in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. operations, it would fit a pattern of deal making under the software giant’s chief executive, Satya Nadella who are running big online communities like LinkedIn, Minecraft, GitHub. This is a safe landing spot for TikTok, according to New York Times.
