UK's weather forecast

Hot weather will return on Friday and remain throughout the weekend, with scorching highs of 29C (84F) forecast according to the Met Office. Here is the latest heatwave forecast and weather maps, express.co.uk reported.

Scorching temperatures returned from Friday, with the heat returning, and conditions feeling more like summer. Forecasters are predicting a hot weekend, with up to 29C likely for the south of England.

Grey, dreary skies and cooler weather have dominated July so far, so sun seekers will be glad to hear hot weather is making a return. This heat will continue into the weekend, with hot days on the way for Saturday and Sunday.

Met Office meteorologist, Nicky Maxey said: “The sunshine is back over the next few days. It's going to feel more like July. “Friday looks like it's going to be the hottest day, but temperatures will still be high across the weekend.

“There is a warming trend in the south later this week, certainly by the end of the week and into the weekend, with temperatures back up to into the high 20s, if not higher.”

Netweather forecasters say into Friday a band of patchy rain and cloud will continue to clear through Scotland, making its way into Northern England and across Ireland.

However, either side of this rain will be plenty more sunshine. To the south, it'll be much warmer, with central, southern and eastern England seeing temperatures rise into the mid-high twenties.

Met Office’s Greg Dewhurst said of Friday's forecast: “There’ll be grey cloud in the Southwest which should burn back quickly to allow blue skies to return.

“This frontal system slowly pushes southwards during the day so we'll see outbreaks of rain at times.

"It will move across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northern England and perhaps fringing with North Wales.

“But to the south in that sunshine a hot day to come with temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s, 28 possibly 29C towards the southeast.”

Outlook for weekend

The weekend will see the front bringing the rain and cloud slowly continue to journey southeast. During Saturday it'll clear from Northern England and push down into Wales, the Midlands and later on, the southwest.

The rain on it will mostly be patchy by this point, but there'll still be some heavier bursts at times. The southeast corner will keep the very warm air, and sunny spells - although the cloud will encroach from the northwest through the day.

Temperatures will again rise into the mid-twenties here, while the air will be fresher and cooler to the north of the band of rain and cloud.

Mr Dewhurst said: "On Saturday, the band of rain will slowly move south so that Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England will see a mixture of sunshine and showers.

"The southeast will see a warm day, hitting 25C while elsewhere will see highs of around 19C again."

Mr Dewhurst said on Sunday, the rain band will track quickly towards southern England in the morning.

However by the afternoon it will have cleared the south coast, leaving a sunny evening behind. Heading into next week, Tuesday will be mostly dry, though some showers will still form in the north.

Temperatures will be around average in the south, but slightly below elsewhere. The Met Office forecasts that most areas will be mostly dry into the middle of next week, beyond which it is likely that the settled conditions will continue for many central and southern areas.

This will then bring dry weather and sunny spells here. Northern and northwestern parts will probably turn increasingly unsettled with spells of rain accompanied by stronger winds at times.

Later in the period there is a chance that the unsettled conditions across the north may spread more widely across the rest of the UK. Temperatures near or slightly above average but perhaps warm or at times very warm in the south.

Europe's weather forecast

BBC weather forecast a very "unsettled" picture for Europe this week as half of the continent is treated to scorching 30-degree highs while the other half is forced to endure "heavy outbreaks of rain" and "brisk winds".

There have been some reports of flash flooding in Palermo, Sicily as a result of a line of slow-moving thunderstorms that brought some torrential rain to the city. BBC meteorologist Chris Fawkes assured viewers that they have all cleared out of the way now. The weather presenter noted that an area of low pressure across central Europe is bringing cloudy skies and rain.

He said: "That rain will push a little bit further southwards and eastwards as we head through Friday and into Friday afternoon. "That will tend to break up into heavy thundery showers.

"Some of those showers look to be quite intense into parts of Croatia. "South east of this we'll have dry weather and sunshine for most of Greece."

Mr Fawkes continued: "Most of Turkey is looking fine and settled. "But there is still pretty stormy weather across eastern Europe with those thunderstorms quite widespread.

"Temperatures are below average for the time of year. "Heavy outbreaks of rain and brisk winds will be affecting Norway while there's something a little bit drier in the forecast for Sweden."

The BBC presenter added: "Temperatures in Stockholm will reach up to 27 degrees.

"High pressure remains with us for Spain and Portugal, and here we've got some very hot weather.

"Indeed over the next few days, temperatures will be peaking around 39 degrees Celsius."

Mr Fawkes told viewers: "Hot weather in Madrid will reach as high as 35 Celsius through Saturday afternoon. "However, further storms are in the forecast quite widely in eastern Europe.

"Over the next few days, Paris will be dry and sunny, turning much warmer through the weekend. "Temperatures will be 28 to 29 degrees Celsius in the sunshine here. "In Moscow, it stays unsettled with rain or thundery showers around for the next few days."

According to weatheronline.co.uk, a front brings cloud and outbreaks of rain into northern England, Wales and parts of southwest England on Saturday morning. The day starts bright in southern England with good spells of sunshine, although the cloud increases here as the front arrives from the north.

Patchy rain in Wales, the Midlands, southern England and East Anglia late afternoon, perhaps turning more persistent in the southwest and southern Wales where there will be mist and go on hills too. Drier and brighter, as well as fresher in northern England and southern Ireland, although some showers affecting Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

Eastern Scotland should be dry with sunny spells. Breezier in northwest Scotland where there will be more cloud and showers. Highs at 25C in the sunshine in southeast England, 13C in northern Scotland.

A weak front may linger in the far south of England at first on Sunday bringing some cloud and rain here around daybreak. Drier for much of the rest of England, Wales, Ireland and eastern Scotland with sunny spells.

Showers in northern and western Scotland, these possibly heavy. Scattered showers in Northern Ireland, and then across northern and central England in the afternoon. Highs at 24C in southeast England, cooler air arriving from the northwest with tops at 15C in northwest Scotland.
