In the rapidly developing, complicated, and unpredictable Covid-19 pandemic, which has far-reaching effects on the stability and sustainable development of all countries, international cooperation needs to be further strengthened. Cooperation amid the pandemic was chosen as the main topic at the UNGA High-Level Week.

According to deputy minister Dang Hoang Giang, president Nguyen Xuan Phuc's trip accomplished comprehensive results, further enhancing the prestige and position of Vietnam in the international arena.

The visit achieved four major goals as following.

Firstly, it promoted the implementation of the 13th Party Congress, sending a strong message to the world about Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development. The trip implemented the Secretariat's Directive 25 on promoting multilateral diplomacy, in which cooperation with the UN is a top priority.

Secondly, Vietnam's contribution to initiatives at the 76th session has shown the image of a self-reliant and constantly evolving Vietnam and the country's development vision and aspirations, its willingness to responsibly participate and contribute to global and regional issues, cooperate with countries to overcome challenges, towards a better future after the pandemic.

Third, in the framework of the event, the Vietnamese leader met with leaders of many countries and international organizations, consolidating a solid and stable face of foreign policy.

Fourth, the event strongly implemented Vietnam's vaccine diplomacy via meetings and contacts at all levels and channels, wasting no opportunity to access vaccine supply.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc's speech at the event was highly appreciated by the international public.

Deputy minister Dang Hoang Giang said the speech reflected the current top concerns of the international community, which were responding to the pandemic, climate change and maintaining multilateralism, international peace, and security

Giang said the proposals raised by the president's speech not only expressed Vietnam's concerns and desires but also that of all developing countries and countries in the region.

“The initiatives introduced by the president at the 76th UNGA are specific, in-depth, affirming a Vietnam with independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policies is a friend and reliable partner of the international community,” he said.

The international public commented that, through a series of events at the UN, Vietnam had shown its growing confidence in participating in regional and local peace and security issues. Sharing the same view, Giang affirmed that Vietnam had the foundations to build confidence.

"Vietnam attended the 76th session of the UNGA with the confidence of its heroic history and tradition, its constant innovation, its active, comprehensive, effective integration, and contribution to the world," he said.

"At the same time, Vietnam's diplomacy has a new motivation when the 13th Congress put priority on elevating multilateral diplomacy.

"As an active and responsible member, Vietnam confidently upholds multilateralism, strongly affirms its observance of international law, peaceful settlement, supports the role of the regional and international organizations in addressing security challenges."

Giang said the practical basis for Vietnam's confidence was its successful organization of the US-North Korea Summit in 2019, the record-high number of votes for it to become a UNSC council non-permanent member, its activities as the council's non-permanent member, and its contributions and results in peacekeeping.

In a meeting with president Nguyen Xuan Phuc, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted Vietnam's contributions to the UN as well as other forums on regional peace and security.

Guterres said that when sharing its own story, experience and solutions, Vietnam shared experiences and solutions to global problems.
