Unforgettable photos of one-year-long fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam

Vietnam detected the first Covid-19 cases on January 23, 2020. To date, while many countries in the world are still struggling with the pandemic, Vietnam has basically put it under control. Let take a look at the battle against the epidemic in Vietnam over the past year.

On January 23, Vietnam recorded the first Covid-19 cases. They were two Chinese nationals, a father and son, coming from Wuhan. In the photo, the father was given treatment in Vietnam. Photo: Kinhtedothi

On January 29, the Central Committee issued Official dispatch No. 79 on the virus prevention and control. On January 30, Prime Minister signed a decision to establish the National Steering Committee for the Covid-19 prevention and control led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam. From January 23 to February 13, Vietnam reported 16 Covid-19 infectious cases all linked to the Wuhan outbreak. On February 1, the Prime Minister signed Decision 173 announcing the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

On February 13, Son Loi commune (Binh Xuyen, Vinh Phuc) was locked down after discovering 11 cases. Nearly 11,000 people in the commune were quarantined. On March 4, the blockade was removed. Photo: VOV

On March 16, Vietnam required all residents to wear masks in public places. Two days later, Prime Minister decided to suspend granting visas for foreigners entering Vietnam as well as restrict flights from the epidemic zone. Photo: VOV

On March 20, two nurses of Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital were infected with the virus, dubbed as patient 86 and 87. The hospital then became Vietnam’s largest Covid-19 hotspot, with a total of 46 patients were detected. Photo: VOV

Also on March 20, a British pilot (patient 91) was confirmed to contract the virus after visiting the Buddha Bar in Ho Chi Minh City. Then, a total of 18 patients were discovered related to this outbreak .

On March 30, the State General Secretary and State President called for the fight against Covid-19. One day later, Prime Minister issued Directive No. 16 on the implementation of urgent measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic. On April 6, patient 243 was confirmed in Ha Loi village (Me Linh District, Hanoi). By April 15, there were 13 patients discovered. On April 8, the village, home to about 13,000 people was lock downed. Photo: VOV

On April 15, Prime Minister requested 28 provinces and cities identifies as "high-risk" and "at-risk" to continue social distancing until at least April 22. On September 7, the Ministry of Health announced that the country had successfully controlled the epidemic in Da Nang and other localities. A total of 35 patients have died of the disease, many being elderly patients with underlying conditions like diabetes or kidney failure.
