Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan holds Congress for new Tenure

The Vietnam Union Association in Japan was established on April 6, 2023, with the goal of uniting and gathering Vietnamese community organizations in Japan.

During the past term, the Union actively collaborated with the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan and other diplomatic missions, as well as international organizations, to implement various meaningful activities. These efforts aimed to strengthen community bonds and promote the image of Vietnam and its people to the Japanese public and the international community.
Highlighted activities included: Homeland Spring, the reenactment of Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, the Hello Saitama Festival, and support for those affected by natural disasters in both Japan and Vietnam.
Speaking at the Congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu highly appreciated the Union’s practical community-centered activities during the past term.

He affirmed that the Embassy and Vietnam’s diplomatic missions in Japan will continue to support the Union’s activities, as well as those of other Vietnamese associations. This support contributes to building a united, law-abiding, and positively contributing Vietnamese community in Japan.
According to Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu, in this era of national advancement, the Vietnamese community in Japan needs to make more active and vigorous contributions to be worthy of its position as the second-largest overseas Vietnamese community in the world.

He proposed that the Union and its member associations should organize well-structured, systematic, and substantive activities, particularly in areas such as supporting workers, disseminating local laws, promoting Vietnamese culture, and teaching Vietnamese to the younger generation. He also emphasized the Union's role in guiding and supporting newer associations during their formation and operation.
At the Congress, Dr. Nguyen Hong Son was re-elected as President of the Vietnam Union Association in Japan for the second term (2025–2028). He is currently the CEO of Aikai Group and has been appointed by the Ibaraki Prefectural Government as a member of the “Ibaraki Prefecture Comprehensive Planning Review Council” for the 2025–2027 term.

In his acceptance speech, President Nguyen Hong Son stated: “The Union model is a new form of operation. Amid the positive development of Vietnam–Japan relations, the Union, together with its member associations, will strive to enhance proactiveness and promote unity within the Vietnamese community in Japan.”
In the new term, Vietnam Union Association in Japan has outlined its operational direction, which includes: strengthening community bonds; supporting integration and sustainable development for Vietnamese people in Japan; promoting Vietnam - Japan cultural exchange through cultural promotion activities; fostering economic and business opportunities; and advancing digital platforms and innovation.
