US and Canada weather forecast today, July 10: Pattern change brings temporary heat relief to Great Lakes as hot temperatures intensify in Southwest,
US Weather Forecast
An area of high pressure aloft is bringing hot temperatures to the Great Lakes right now; however, it is expected to give way to a southward plunge of the jet stream by this weekend which should knock down temperatures several degrees in many cities as well as lower humidity levels. Meanwhile, another area of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will amplify from the Southwest into the Plains, where an extended heatwave is expected to develop, according to the Weather Channel.

The Great Lakes have been in the midst of a prolonged heatwave which brings highs in the 90s to many cities. It is reported that Buffalo tied its record of consecutive seven days of 90-degree heat on Thursday and Wednesday marked the sixth consecutive day the western New York City experienced temperatures in the 90s.

The jet stream is forecasted to usher in at least some modest relief from the hot and humid weather. In Detroit, highs of the mid-90s will give way to afternoon readings in the 80s during the weekend. While Buffalo and Cleveland might see highs drop from the 90s during the past several days to the lower 80s over the weekend. Nevertheless, this drop in temperatures may be only short-lived and the heatwave is likely to return to the Great Lakes in mid-July, reported the latest outlook of the NOAA's Climate Prediction Center.
